very odd!
Itâs the (new and even old) engine in SU that just doesnât support M3 Macâs, hope we see a fix soon! Otherwise we have to go back to SU 23
Reading what is happening - it seems like the Max and Studio ones seem to have the issue?
They days of âit just worksâ are long gone with Macs, when something doesnât work, itâs even harder to fix it seems.
Have you tried turning MSAA to 0x? That seems to be a common fix for these related issues.
Just as a data point, my 2019 Intel-based MBP has AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB graphics, I have 0x MSAA set, and I havenât experienced any of these issues running 2024. Go figureâŚ
My guess is that itâs because Apple makes their own (CPU/GPU) chipset now that developers canât just rely on their âstandard setâ of criteria and need to test on more and more kinds of graphic enginesâŚ
The idea of using an API (Metal in this example) is that you write your software to âtalkâ to that as an agnostic presence that goes and communicates with the hardware.
When you are switching back to the classic render engine, itâs using the OpenGL API instead.
If not, youâd end up having to test every single possible piece of hardware and combination hardware in existence - which is why nothing is done like that anymore.
Thank you for educating me on this, iâm just a humble creative director hoping to understand what happens under the bonnet
So âHave you tried turning MSAA to 0x?â doesnât realy makes sense to meâŚ
In the graphics settings for Sketchup (preferences?) there is a setting for multi sample anti- aliasing
Change it to x0
Like this? Because this is standard, I didnât change anything, only the âuse classic graphicâ part
Thatâs the one - if you change it to the new graphics engine you may need to change it again.
I just did a test to cancel things out, but i am guessing SU did something, because both now work! See these quick renders from within both engines within SU 24
Happily to inform you that all (for as far as we can see) is resolved on M3 Max Macâs now!
With the change to 0x antialiasing I take it? We do still have something to fix, not everyone is using Retina displays, and they like antialiasing for edges to look smoother.
Yes, just like the settings I send to Adam, nothing changed there
No problem. Good to read the problem got solved.
Ah, but it is: Transparency issue in SU 2024 on M3 Max Mac broke Vray rendering
Back to the topic. This thread is about Transparency issues and anti-aliassing on Macs in Sketchup 2024.
Bought on black friday with Sonoma installed.
But yes, it was created in â23â
