Upload your model to Dropbox or similar and post a link to it here.
here you go
You have to make the file accessible.
Hi! I am a brand new to SketchUp and trying to learn as I go on my very first drawing - a floor plan of a deck. I have had the same problem with my drawing just disappearing and zoom extents not working. My entire screen is grey. I think this happened when I tried to add another section of the deck to my plan by typing in dimensions. I would be very grateful if someone who knows how to find my drawing is willing to help. Thanks!

You had all of the tags turned off, fog turned on, and the camera set to Parallel Projection. Here I’ve reversed all of those.

Do your modeling with the Camera set to Perspective and leave fog turned off.
What are you modeling?
Thank you so much! I had no idea that fog was even something that I needed to check. I toggled it off, and there was my drawing.
I’m doing a floor plan of a covered deck to help with furniture selection. I may do more with modeling later on in the project, but for now I only need 2d. I don’t suppose you know how to turn off the blue axis?
You can’t, because SketchUp is a 3D moddeler…
What you can do is select parralel projection and top view.
Thanks for the reply! I thought that might be the case. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it, but since all of my experience is in Autocad this is definitely an adjustment.
Maybe this is a better way to ask my question - is there a way to be certain that I’m drawing on the floor? I was trying to put in a door swing, and it kept putting certain points on the blue axis instead of on the floor. I eventually got it work, but I still have no idea what I did. I definitely appreciate the ability to take my plans into 3d at a later point, but for what I’m doing, I would really like to start with a plan view.
Thanks again!
Not that I know of? But things tend to snap to existing geometry, so you could always drop a great big square on the ‘floor’ and work on top of that. Like a giant sheet of paper (that I would group at the very least to keep things from sticking to it.)
Hello, i have the same problem … and my guide lines are also missing. Could you help me?
You need to post the file to be examined. Attach it to a response here or if it’s too big post a file sharing link.
