Layout viewport is blank after updating

Hello, I made a slight geometry change in Sketchup, and wehn i saved and updated model in Layout all by viewports flashes a yellow warning symbol then went blank.

Now my styles show a question mark over them,

but even when I try to change to a Default Style the viewport remains blank. The only way I can see any geometry is if I switch to Hybrid rendering, but even then there is no colour shown.

Would really appreciate any help as I’m up against a deadline!

I didn’t change anything in sketchup since it was all working fine, apart from pasting in the 3D family from another instance of sketchup.

I’ve uploaded the SU and LO here as they’re too big to attach: https://we.tl/t-ixlxZAxYXE

This just happened to me. Did you figure out a fix for this?

Have you tried updating to the newest version?

Yes and this my friend is what I think is the problem. Every time I update to the new version there are issues. I’m getting weird colors on my pop up windows in SU too.

Smells like a display driver problem to me. Have you tried updating the driver and/or switching off the new graphics engine in LayOut?

Yep. Never used the new graphic engine but every crash says it might be because of it even though it wasn’t turned on.

Nope - no solution and keeps happening from time to time on different projects.

Worth noting that changing style on the missing scenes does nothing.

I was teaching this week and we had this happen. I was using some templates and files that the company that hired me uses.

After struggling with it while trying to teach and crash and be blank - I took the model and copy / pasted into a new 2025 SKP file. Then setup the new scenes / section cuts / etc. - and it worked as expected.

I suspect there is some issue with some older SKP files being used / referenced in the newer files. I have no idea when the base files we were using wete made, or in what version - but I had people in class on 22,23, 24 and 25.

yeah my solution was to start all over again in a new LO project but it was a PITA that I could have done without.

For me this started after upgrading to SU 2025. Everything was fine. At the moment, in layout I’m not using the experimental engine and in SU I’m using the new graphics engine with GPU set on “Use System Default”. I having issues with extension pop ups too that I’ll be starting a new post.
So at the moment the setting above are working for me. Both Raster and Vector.

Still struggling with disappearing viewports in Layout… As I see from the discussion its just a HUGE bug that we’ll have to wait until it is fixed. (as usual )

We haven’t seen it, so if you’d like to send me a file that’d be great.

First, confirm you’re on the latest released version (25.0.660 for Windows)

Second, try exporting the model to .png with the same scene to confirm that works. That’s all LayOut is doing in raster.

Second, make sure you can Send to LayOut with a template that we ship. If that works, try opening your template and resaving as a 2025 template.

Short of sharing the file or a stripped down version of it with me, that’s about all I can do.

Has anyone come up with a solution for this issue?
I updated with the latest patch yesterday and now I am having a world of issues with viewports not showing or presenting with strange imagery as seen in image below.

second image is with no changes to the model at all. just clicked update reference and this is what I get. it looks as though the sections cuts didnt come through.

3rd attempt to update the reference and layout just closed no bugsplat

Any ideas here would be appreciated. This is super frustrating

I am having the same problem. A yellow triangle appears as the update for referenced file is running, then blank viewports. I updated to the latest release this morning. Kinda sucks to pay good money for crappy software.

It appears this is a layout 2025 issue.
Using the same 2025 sketchup model and viewing/presenting it in 2024 Layout there is no issues at all.
not a great solution but for today I will take what I can get.

Did you catch the bugsplat number or add your email or comments?

Yellow triangle expected (you’re Auto rendering I presume?)
Repeat Layout viewport is blank after updating - #13 by Barry and I’ll do what I can to get to the bottom of this.

@barry as per my post above I was having different visual outputs after each reference update and on the 3rd attempt layout crashed without a blugsplate. In fact from all of the crashes I had in layout yesterday there were no bugsplats.

Sorry - you said without bugsplat and I was responding as if you got a bugsplat, so I deleted my response.

We have had a recent crash without bugsplat - you could try the workaround from that: LO 2025 - still crashing with buffer overrun error - #17 by Barry

“Layout viewport is blank after updating - #13 by Barry”. What does this line mean?
I dont see any -#13 on my community topics or post titles.

I am having the same problem; crash during a update to Layout of a reference Skp file.
Very slow update process does not finish. Then the viewports fill with yellow triangles, then the Layout session just ends and the Sketchup window pops up.
