LAYOUT 2025 is CRASHING at EVERY update or save and MORE.....updated viewports are messed up and scales are lost

I haven’t been using SketchUp and Layout in the last 4 month and I haven’t been using it on my laptop for even longer. So I don’t know if it something related to the new version or specific problem on my laptop…

Layout is either crashing at every UPDATE or messes up the viewports.

after two crashes and 2 restarts it finally updated the layout.
(it will go back to the original view if I change the viewport to another than change it back..one by one…)

I am struggling to get out anything for the last 2 days…I restarted the computer a few times too…

I needed BIOS and Graphic Driver updates… I am installing them now…and will see if this will solve the problem.

Unfortunately, nothing have changed after updating and resting. The problem is exactly the same.

I don’t have the experimental Graphic engine On.

Crashes upon crashes. I haven’t had this experience for a long time with SketchUp and Layout. It crashes 3 or 4 times EVERY SINGLE UPDATE/RELINK until eventually it refreshes with a totally messed up result, so I will have to manually choose another viewport, then go back to the one it was originally to have the right image back…

I am constantly restarting the computer too, to be able to update/relink - as I am trying to finish a supposedly quick drawing which now is taking days to get out.

The last time I restarted the following error message come up: “A breakpoint has been reached (0x0000003 occurred) in the application (SketchUp) location 0x00007FFCC9E3AA47.”

The error message come up this time:

Updated Windows, Video card BIOS. Installed all latest. Defragmented, tested, cleaned, memory tested, re-started many times. Nothing helped. I am at the last version, but can not get it out because the model can not be re-linked. Crashes after crashes and this last one just can not be done. Now is gone all white, so changing the viewport doesn’t make any difference…

Not sure what is going on.

Have you tried turning off the new Graphics Engine in preferences?

Maybe it won’t fail, but you won’t have the same image quality in the end product.

The new Graphics Engine wasn’t turned on.

I managed to get out 1 version of the bedroom design and left the other unpublished as it was too much time to restart the software and computer. In the end nothing really helped and I got stuck. I haven’t tried to open the SketchUp file and layout file since…

I’ll wait it out…hoping that by the time I need it it will be sorted.

Where are the reference files located? Are there any special characters in the file names?

Yes, I have underscores, and numbers and 1"&" symbol.

Layout is still crashing with different files too and often when I want the viewport to refresh.

It is like this for the last 6 months. This problem - occurring at every second EVERY TIME I refresh - is new to me , I would say it came with the last update. Sketchup 2025.

It is making work incredible difficult and stressful and didn’t help SketchUp’s reputation front of my work collogues and bosses.

I am hoping that it is a bug and will be fixes ASAP. I am constantly sending error logs…

I haven’t experienced any crashing of my LayOut files on my computer. I’ve seen a few problems with files share by others, though. I’ve always been able to fix it by cleaning up the SketchUp file. You could share the files so we can see if there’s something specific in your files that is problematic.

You didn’t answer the question about where the files are saved while you are working on them.

Underscores and numbers are OK. “&” is not.

Location of the file - internal hard drive.

Some of the files don’t have any special characters - still crashing.

I can’t send files as I work with NDAs.

It is not just me how is reporting issues and I send report each time, so there must be information about this.

Login is also a bit tricky as it asks me to login more often than before and layout is a bit slower than usual.

I would also like to add that LAYOUT is also freezes when saving a file. It just never gets saved. ( I eliminated all special characters except underscore (_)

Also: Layout changes viewport after updating - making all sort of funny things - elevation is shortened. Textures are not shown, the view is totally mixed up. I have to change the view manually to another and then back to the one to make it appear correctly. …It happens to me with all files.

Please, look into this issue. ASAP.

LAYOUT is unstable and it is making working with it impossible.

Did anyone else experienced problems with scaling too? I use SK+LO for over 20 years, but I had never experience this problem, that it doesn’t “Preserve” the scale when it the scale is set and the preserve scale box is ticked. Layout is just all over the place…

Are you running the latest update patch of SketchUp?

Are the SketchUp files referenced in your LO file saved as SU25?

what are the sizes of the SU files?

That viewport going all white thing happened to me yesterday after I changed units in SU. But it went back to normal after closing and reopening LO.

I just downloaded SketchUp 2026. I will check it out. I hope it will work better. Thank you for the tip.
