Hiya!

I’m learning Sketchup to model some outdoor playgrounds! I’m also helping some others I know learn the software - I’m trying to stay juuuuuust ahead of them lol.

This was also the reason I learnt to use Sketchup back in 2018! Did you find the Sketchup playground tutorial on Sketchup Campus? Reach out if you need some help.

My name is Jeremy, I’m an Aerospace project manager but my sketchup work is purely for hobby. Actually, it’s because my son wanted a 3D printer for Christmas and like many things kids want, he liked the idea more than the practice. So I’m trying to get some use out of it by making little practical things for around the house. I use the free web version and took the on-line tutorials but that only gave me an introduction.

Well, you do have the forum here to post your SketchUp questions (even for the free web version) when you get stuck with for example 3D printing issues. 24/7

Hello
My name is Petronella and I use SketchUp for Interior Design and Sculpture. I consider myself an intermediate user, but have not really used this software for quite sometime, so when it comes to certain aspects, I feel like a newbie… I enjoy SketchUp as it is great for most everything I do and learning the ins and outs are typically quick studies. Much of my learning curve has been simply a result of curious exploration without following along, which I enjoy. However, I just recently updated my software and created a component that will not load into my model and so here I am… seeking an answer…

I am running SketchUp Pro on a MacBook Air M1.

Greetings,
My name is Steve. I am an IT Tech Support professional.
I am currently handling IT Support for PNW BOCES in Westchester NY.
Very limited experience in SKetchup as I am supporting an architecture and engineering Lab on our campus.
We are a Microsoft district and have just started to use Sketchup for Schools.

I hope not to be too much of a bother on these forums as I navigate Sketchup. Hopefully will earn enough to do some basic modeling while helping the teacher and his students.

Hello all. My name is Peter Nosko. I’m a retired software developer (mainly Oracle database back-end). I went to a vocational high school and took 2.5 years of machine drafting and 1.5 years of architectural drafting. I’ve used SketchUp infrequently, but over many years, back to when it was a free Google product. I would say I’m a still a beginner, but know enough to be dangerous (do things not the best or direct way). I purchased the SketchUp Pro annual license, I started the course/tutorial for the playground equipment months ago, but can’t recall if I finished it.

I am looking to model my current house into a SketchUp drawing. I could use some suggestions on the best tutorial(s) to complete so that I don’t model myself into a corner. I tried putting a small section of my kitchen walls in a 3D model so that I can layout the cabinets I purchased for a remodeling project and see where I need to make wall alterations. I ran into an issue where I had a single wall divided into multiple faces and could not figure out how to merge them into a single face. I was getting an error-- “The plane equation for cface is not valid.” I’m not sure where I went wrong. I could start over, but want to know/learn the best way to enter the walls and then cut out the doorways, etc. I am wide open to suggestions. Thanks.

I have a stretching plugin that seems to cause that error message to come up a lot. Usually it says it fixed it and I go on.

You might want to watch the Friday live streams on YouTube, LinkedIn or Facebook. Today’s ended early, but watching someone’s work flow live can be more insightful sometimes than reading or following tutorials.

Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it? (Besides using it to impress the babes…) It’s cool and easy to learn. Has it’s quirks though :upside_down_face:.

How proficient are you in SketchUp? Beginner, intermediate, advanced? Intermediate

What is your current set up? Computer type, SketchUp version…etc. (Your lake house and Ferrari don’t count) Sketchup Pro 2025 running on a MacBook Pro M3 15" with 2 24" 4k monitors

Hello everyone.

Thank you for having me. I’m new to the group but a long time user of SketchUp. I started 3d when Vectorworks was called MiniCad. I’m a professional set designer and 3d modeller in the UK film industry. I work on commercials and dramas for Netflix & Amazon. I also work with fine artists and home owners helping them visualise their ideas and plans.

The best thing about SketchUp is the joy of using it and the ease of sharing with others on a project even if they’re not 3d savvy. Set decorators find animated model walkthroughs particularly useful when planning and considering different options.

I’m instructed by the production designer on the job. Other members of the crew, the D.O.P., the director and the gaffer are often SketchUp users so I cab share the model with them so they can work out camera placement, set/studio placement etc.

Once everyone is happy with how everything is looking I then use layout to create plans and elevations for construction.

I use Podium for renders. I find it far more straightforward than Vray etc. It gives nice results. I feel slightly limited on a Mac for rendering options, I’d like to get into the unreal engine but my poor computer can’t really handle it and the thought of swapping to a PC makes me feel ill.

Years ago I went to the SketchUp bootcamp in London. I made contacts there that lead to extremely interesting and award winning work. I also learnt a couple of tricks that I don’t know where I’d have learnt anywhere else. It was very good to be with so many other SU devotees.

I’m currently on an iMac OS 13.7.5 using SU25.

I share 401 Models in the 3d warehouse, I have had over 3 million downloads. On a typical weekday I have around 900 downloads. My aim is to have everything you’d need to get a super quick model of a dwelling furnished and accessorised. There are also handy things for the film industry like decks and furniture & accessories from the London prop houses.

Thanks to SketchUp I’ve had many extremely interesting jobs, working with fascinating people and projects that I’ve been proud to be part of.

My favourite emoji is smiley face, reminds me of the 70s.

Wow amazing work Jenny. I loved seeing the examples on your website. You should post some of them in the Gallery sub I’m sure more people would like to see your work.

Thanks so much Taz! I’ll do that.

Have a great weekend
