I’m from the Western US and am a SU beginner+. I want to get more proficient with SU for personal and professional use. I’ve benefitted from your posts and am grateful to now be part of this community!
I’m hoping to use SketchUp to design my retirement home and for woodworking projects.
I used a home design program 20 years ago to design an addition to my house, but haven’t used CAD much since then. I’m guessing that there have been big advances!
I’m very interested in sustainable, low-impact building. My current focus is on strawbale building; designing homes that can use the bales for the roof as well as the walls. The secret seems to be to use a catenary shape (think; the St. Louis Arch), so I’m hoping that someone has already developed a tool for catenaries, or that SketchUp has tools for using a math formula to draw a shape. I couldn’t find anything like this in a half dozen other CAD programs, so this is a chance for SketchUp to shine!
There are several extensions that can draw catenary curves and several that can draw other splines such as Bezier or Catmull. Your profile says you are using the free web version which doesn’t have any facility for using extensions, though. You would need the desktop version which would require either a Pro or Studio subscription.
Thanks for your quick response!
I was just figuring some of that out, but your response helps confirm what I found.
I’ll play with the Web version until I’m comfortable with the basics, then decide on the best package that gives me access to the extensions and other tools I’ll want.
Hello,
I’m new to the community here. I’ve been using the free 2017 version for sometime now and decided to upgrade to Sketchup Go and I am using a MacBook Air with up to date macOS 14.6.1.
Can anyone help me with getting this thing to load? In the “included applications” I do not see one that indicates it is intended for MacBook Air?
Which application would be the correct one?
Thanks in advance,
Mike
