for starters it is very user friendly unlike 3ds max or maya …if you are starting to have interest in creating 3d models i recommend this application as source of you foundation. <333

This is my first foray into an online communities of any type - i don’t do FB or any of the others. I am an architect, graduated in 1985. I transitioned from graduate architect through levels of management and most recently I have spent many years in executive management of design and development companies in SE Asia - typically on very large and complex developments.
Now i have returned to Australia and I am really enjoying working as a sole practitioner architect exercising my original passion - architectural design combined with landscape design/planning (not horticulture). I have been using/experimenting with SketchUp for a couple of years and have increased my proficiency - it is a great way to communicate with my Clients. Recently I started using Layout as recommended to produce technical architectural drawings for submission to approval authorities - this has been a more rocky road to travel.

I´m an software architect, working in the IT department in one of Austria´s biggest industries.
For my hobbies I frequently use SU 2020 (2023) Pro, mainly because I´m so much quicker in SU to create models and print them. I do have SolidWorks and Fusion 360 as well, but just use them if I create something which need to be processed onmy CNC or my milling machine.

Where I Use SketchUp: SU and I began way back in 2015 when I converted my first van into a camper. It as evolved into a full on professional pursuit as a designer/builder!
My Favorite Thing About SketchUp? It’s an incredibly efficient tool for quickly expressing massing ideas in real time!
My Proficiency? I’d say I’m intermediate level. I’ve developed some non normative strategies for model building that relies more on groups than components because I find it more intuitive!
Have I gone to a 3DBasecamp? No but really excited to join!

Hi all, Mike here. I’m an RC guy who has used Sketchup for quite a few years and designed a couple of RC car chassis etc on it, had them printed through Shapeways. I guess I’m an intermediate user as I’m still on the free 2017 version, not a big fan of having to be connected for my software to work. Working on some more complex stuff now that I’m going to need a bit of advice on, but I’ll ask those questions in the appropriate venue.

My name is Bryant Warren.
Currently I design, illustrate/render, spec, bid and oversee construction of high-end custom swimming pools.
I use Sketchup Pro in conjunction with V-Ray and Layout professionally in my day job. Evenings and weekends I use Sketchup for semi-professional woodworking and to design and plan props for my child’s competitive high school marching band.
My favorite thing about Sketchup is it’s relative ease of use.
I would qualify myself as an intermediate Sketchup user.
I’ve never attended a basecamp, or received any other formal training in Sketchup, Layout or V-Ray.
I currently use a Lenovo Legion gaming laptop with Geforce and AMD Radeon graphics - it’s the only system I have access to.
I do not have a 3D warehouse page.
Modeling swimming pools accurately - i.e. compound radii, decreasing radii, using the model for volumetric computations, etc - is often frustrating, presumably due to my own lack of knowledge.
My favorite emoji is Thumbs up.

Hello, I’m Sebastian. Some call me Bas. You could’ve guessed.
I have been trained as an apprentice in an architects office. Going to school wasn’t my favorite pastime, and never has been since. This opportunity came along because, apart of being an architects son, CAD was introduced in the nineties which, for many of the older generation wasn’t all that easy or natural to pick up, later on in their careers.
Since then my work has evolved and only recently I’ve taken up work as what I guess is called an architectural engineer in English, as opposed to a construction- or building engineer.
My first enounter with CAD was a Mac application called Claris CAD. My first encounter with Sketchup was a trial version, round about 2000, that was advertised, if I remember correctly, as a great replacement for this by then obsolete Claris CAD. It was quite a while later that I actually bought Sketchup, but have been using it ever since. It’s not the only modeling tool I use though, but when it comes to making a first quick sketch to present to a client it to me is the tool of choice. I use it in the office, at home, and have been using it in workshops, while making a roof frame, for instance.
Although it takes some practice, afaik there is no competition for presenting a model to a client and make quick modifications on the fly, while discussing the plan. Concerning proficiency, I consider myself to be advanced with some aspects of Sketchup, but there are others I have completely neglected.
For the geeks: I’m a long time Mac user and I haven’t upgraded Sketchup for a long time. My newest configuration is a 2023 14 inch MPB, with a M3 Pro with a 12 core CPU and 18 core GPU, 36 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. So it’s time to move on from Sketchup 8, I suppose. I’m still trying to make up my mind which package to acquire.
I love sailing, but the most fun to do with a sailing vessel over here is to strand it somewhere along our northern coast with the tide running out. You then find yourself on the most beautifull private beach you can imagine.
