🚨 We need your feedback: SketchUp’s AI Assistant is here!

You guys keep me honest

I should’ve been more specific, by the END of today you should be able to get 26.1. Stay tuned…

It’s bed time where I’m at…

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

…and you only need to look at the most suitable place to download it, which is not the website. :innocent:

I wasn’t even looking… too much work to get done to update right now… just commenting that end of day Boulder is sleepy time for me.

Okay so how do we uninstall the AI stuff completely and keep it gone? How do I stop the AI ad popup every time I open this program?

I am getting so annoyed with Extension Manager notifications every single time I open SketchUp and discover that the AI stuff I uninstalled and disabled is magically re-installed and re-enabled. I don’t want this stuff. I didn’t ask for it. I don’t find it useful. I am never, ever, ever EVER EVER going to pay extra for it.

I am getting so deeply, depressingly, incredibly sick of every single design program I use trying to absolutely force me to use this AI slop by putting flashing buttons, sticky pop ups, notifications that never go away, settings I cannot change, and plugins I did not install in all of the software I pay good money for. Please allow us to opt-out if we feel like AI is ethically bad and not worth the massive environmental toll that it takes on our resources to power data centers. And if you love AI I don’t care, just don’t force me to use it by perpetually installing extensions and plugins I DO NOT WANT.

Add me to the list of people that don’t want AI Slop to be forced upon us. I don’t need an AI burning electricity to give me models that aren’t quite right, I can do that myself.

This should be an optional system that is downloaded like an extension. Put it in the Extension Warehouse, if people want it then download it. But for everyone else, don’t force this ■■■■ on us.

it’s a default extension, like geolocation.

upon start, sketchup will check if it’s there and reinstall it if needed.
if you don’t want to use it, simply go to the extension manager and deactivate it. it won’t pop up anymore. like any other extension.

please both of you consider meditation, anger management and learning how extensions work. nobody is forcing it in your throat, you can simply deactivate the plugins you don’t want to use.

I don’t use AI, I don’t plan on using much AI, so I turned it off and poof, I don’t have AI. no need to rant.

it should stop after a while, whenever an update comes with a major new thing, you get such popups on start. it’s like a splash screen. no biggie.

fine. see above. turn it off. don’t use it. move on.

well, on that note, now you’ve both joined this forum, I really hope it wasn’t just to do an AI rant, please show us what you do in the SketchUp > Gallery .

also, the best way to ensure people won’t run toward ai assistants to get help is to provide it ourselves. so… read around the forum, and provide help and information.

see you around !

I don’t agree with this. It is a biggie. This really bothers me too. Of course I’m not dying from it. But it should definitely be able to be turned off.
Moreover, it is designed in such a way that the “Welcome Window” will appear afterwards, regardless of whether it is disabled in the settings.

What really bothers me is that it has appeared four times in the past few days. (2 times in SU2025, twice in SU2026). Maybe they thought that spamming once wasn’t enough? Imagine, I can check it myself if I WANT to. And I did it before they spammed me.

Of course, I understand that marketing department only “want good for me”, but their will is very different from mine. I don’t like them deciding what’s good for me.

Have not (yet) tested the ai thingy in sketchup. But what i see in your screenshot looks promising for some 3d printing models

Am i correct you can only use one image? If so, might be welcome to be able to use multiple images, like front left back and right side, to get better results and more details?
(‘stolen feature’ of another ai website that converts images into a 3d model  )

The ability to use multiple images to generate a 3D object would give better results, it will probably be added. But I would consider it more important if they had the low poly model option before this one with multiple images.

True two

idk, I only got it once on my mac, on the PC I got it straight after installing 26 ad 26,1 and twice since, twice on the same day. it’s pretty random, and I wouldn’t be surprised if SU was just calling a server to know if it has to display or not. yesterday, with the warehouse acting up in europe, I got it a third time but the popup was empty with a 404 error on it. Maybe changes on the server cause the popup to reinitialise for everyone?
it was the same with PBR materials last year, got the pop up a few times, then it stopped.

still, it could be any of the many bugs that cause crashes or interface reset.
to me it’s like having a toolbar that reopens everytime. I’ll rejoice when it’s fixed, but I won’t loose my nerve over it.

If it’s a bug, that’s “fine”. We just reported it, so let’s hope they work on it.
If it’s intentional, well, they know by now that it bothers some people more than others. :innocent:

I think they pushed an extra update because either AI Render or AI Assistant was spamming the Ruby Console with a ‘Such and Such File Already Found/Loaded’ type of message.

A Workaround:

Let Extension Manager to update that AI stuff.
Deleting it doesn’t help because the built-in extensions will be reinstalled by the system if you delete them. (The shipped version vill be pushed there, so it’s better to let it update, otherwise it will really pop up the update suggestion again and again)

Once updated, go to the Home tab of the Extension Manager and disable those AIs. Restart Sketchup.

More precisely is about the already initialized constant, and previous definition…and occurs if the console was open when You closed SU… but never mind

If it happens again, installing the su_assistant.. rbz downloaded from EWH will help.

Yes, something like that. I saw it in the console, disabled the extension(s) immediately, then probably updated them even thought they were disabled. When I did re-enable them later the message was gone. So maybe some of the ‘extra’ prompting for updates on the AI stuff was to fix that. It looks like SketchUp has sped up updates… which I favor.

Sketchup “silently” get a new build of installer file. 26.1.189 . (You can see “Check for Update” in a help menu, or download it from the official website)
I had the experience that after installing this new build, the “console noise” came back. Reinstalling the Extension mentioned in my previous post, will solve this again.

Confirmed. I went through the steps and Installed AI Assistant from EW and the warnings stopped.
