We are excited to introduce SketchUp’s AI Assistant as a publicly available Labs project. Assistant is a new access point for AI services, and its first tools include Help Assistant – for quick, convenient in-app guidance – and Generate Object, for creating 3D objects with PBR textures from text or image prompts.
AI Assistant is now available in SketchUp for Web. Access it via the Overflow Menu by clicking the three dots at the bottom of the toolbar.
The Assistant currently has two main tools we want you to try:
Help Assistant: The Help Assistant is a quick, in-app chat that gives you customized, platform-specific advice based on your SketchUp questions.
Generate Object: Generate Object creates 3D models with photoreal PBR textures just from a text or image prompt. Generate Object is currently only available to paid SketchUp Susbcribers.
Note on AI Credits: From inside the Assistant, you may also notice a small icon in the lower left corner that opens a small meter titled “AI Credit Balance”. This may say “0 Credits Left”, but know that we have disabled these limits during our Labs testing so that you will not be limited. When Assistant is launched to the public, limits will be applied and the Generate Object feature will consume AI credits. The Help Assistant will remain free.
Please let us know about any bugs, usability concerns, and your overall impressions of these new features. We can’t wait to hear your feedback. Thanks!
I’ve used AI Assistant to generate a gas meter, roof drain outlet, and a few other items. It’s hitting around 25% usable items. It is making some assumptions that aren’t even shown on the reference images provided. Still has a long way to go to be a usable tool, IMO.
More testing and… completely unexpected, a good result when generating 3D people from photos. With the mention that the possibility of creating a low poly version is useful/necessary.
Even the scale of the generated object is quite close to the real one.
What’s that phrase, “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”?
I really do think there are more useful areas where AI can help SketchUp users, rather than filling Data Centres with what I believe is now referred to as “AI slop”.
Impressive poly reduction, but the big question is, what is happening to that model on the side that isn’t visible? There’s little point to making a 3D object if half of it isn’t generated and you have to hope no one walks round it.
Can I get an AI Ty to do laundry, dishes, errands and billing? I quite like modeling and designing, but would rather someone do all the other stuff in my life so I can focus on design and flying.
Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback during on AI Assistant! I love seeing what you’re all doing with it and where we can refine this offering. As of today, we are launching AI Assistant and and the SketchUp AI Subscription to the general public as part of the 2026.1 Desktop Release. From the AI Launcher (at the top of your SketchUp modeling environment in Desktop, iOS, and Web), you can open AI Assistant, AI Render, and purchase the AI Subscription for additional AI Credits.
