There seemed to be a problem with a material setting, that 2023 was able to cope with. I opened your file and saved it, then opened and saved it in 2021. So, this should work for you:

Sorry that I didn’t see your link earlier.
I was able to recover the file:
THANKYOU SO MUCH!!! Youre truly magical
i wanna ask why unexpected file format happened? and how to avoid this happen?
For your case, we’re not sure yet. Something you did caused some of the model data to get incorrect values. If you can think of what recent changes you had made, and did those same things again, does the model get corrupted again?
If you try that, make sure to keep a copy of the file I sent!
One thing that would help to avoid issues is to keep your models clean and light. I fixed incorrect tag usage and purged unused stuff from your model. That took about 35% off the file size.
There are some fairly heavy objects in the model that could stand to be put on a diet. A simple example: Half of the headboard for the bed probably doesn’t really need to be made of over 3200 entities.
The duvet on the bed is almost 286,000 entities. About half of them are on the underside and would never be visible.
The same sort of thing goes for the mattress. Do the wrinkles in it add anything useful in your model?
ahh i see, so i need to make sure make 1 copy for avoid this happen, thankyou colin
woww thankss for the advice, but i dont know how to purge entities, can you show me how to do it? bcs for that model i didnt work by myself, i took it from free model on the internet
Your profile says you are using the SketchUp Free Plan which is web based. In that case go to the Components panel, click on the house icon at the top to show the In Model components. Then click on the Purge button at the bottom.
Do the same in the Materials panel after purging components.
@colin I’ve been working on this file for quite some time, nothing weird yesterday, and when i went to open it this morning i got “unexpected file format” on both the skp and skb files. any chance you can recover this drawing?
I was able to recover the file:
There are some demanding things about the model. You may have used some large 3D Warehouse components. At the moment there are over 1.4 million edges, which is quite a lot.
You could at least turn off Edge Style, Profiles, to make working with the model be better performance.
Amazing! thank you so so much!
Before you add anything more to your model you might want to purge the unused stuff from your model.
There are also quite a few excessively large textures that could stand to be reduced in size. I did that in your model and cut the file size in half. That would make your model behave better.
Hi @colin ,
I use the Sketchup Pro 2023. I have the same problem of “unexpected file format error”. This is a project that I have been working on for a month, and the deadline is very close. I have tried every possible solution, but I couldn’t resolve it. Can you solve this problem? After solving it, can you explain the cause?
Thank you already,
I was able to recover the file.
We still haven’t figured out what action causes the problem. Can you say what things you had done to the model since the last time it opened ok? The backup file also had the problem, so what causes it was before the previous save, not the most recent save.
