Trouble sending my drawing to Layout from Sketchup

Normally when I am finished a drawing in Sketchup, I save, then go to “File” then “Send to Layout”. For whatever reason today, when I do that nothing shows up in Layout. It opens but doesn’t carry my drawing over. Haven’t seen this before. I’ve re-tried a few times and always the same thing. Nothing.

Please help!

After you send to LayOut save the file and share it here so we can see what you are getting.

Sorry, I don’t know how to share it on here - I’m not super techy which is the problem. But there isn’t really anything to show. It’s the same as if I just double clicked on Layout to open it. It should automatically connect my drawing in as a new file but it’s not making that connection.

There is a screen shot of what opens when I click on “Send to Layout”

So you aren’t being prompted to choose a template?

Go to Edit>Preferences>Startup and make sure it looks like this with Show Welcome Window selected.

No, normally that is what happens. I choose a template and then my file is in there. But for some reason nothing is happening.

Yes, I just followed your steps and it all looks the same.

Try a power off reboot of the computer.

Ok thanks, I’ll try that.

I rebooted my computer and tried again. Still the same.

So this used to work and now it doesn’t? Try repairing the SketchUp installation. Close SketchUp, find the installer which is probably in your Downloads folder. Right click on it and choose Run as administrator. Then choose Repair.

Yes. I haven’t used it probably since spring because I didn’t work during the summer. Now I am trying to finish up a project but it won’t let me finish in Layout. Do you work for Sketchup? I didn’t see another way to contact them other than this forum. I’m scared to mess with things because I don’t want to loose all my work.

No. I’m just a volunteer trying to help you out.

Repairing the installation won’t mess with your model.

Ok. I really appreciate your help! I’ll give it a try.

You can also go the other way around. Open the LO template then insert the SU file. This is how I always work my projects.

I’ve never done it that way before. Maybe I’ll try that and see if I can open it that way. I’m fairly new to Sketchup. Been using it for a couple years but not fulltime.

Do you just “Insert” the file or is there another way to find the SketchUp file from Layout?

First select the layer you want the SU reference on. Then go to File/Insert. File browser will open and you select your file.

It worked! Thanks for all the help!
