Trouble sending my drawing to Layout from Sketchup

Hi Sonder
I’m also having trouble ‘sending to layout’. I select the template, the wheel spins then nothing appears. So I followed your instructions to insert the file into layout. Attached is what I got, an empty banding box. Can you suggest what might be the issue please? Thankyou

Share your LO file and .skp file.

From the color of the bounding box for the viewport it’s clear you have a shared layer active. I’m guessing it’s the bottom layer in the stack and your template content is above that layer so the viewport is inserting underneath the exissting content.

Make a layer higher in the list active before inserting the SketchUp model.

Hey you’re a genius. I moved the ‘on every page’ layer to the top and it worked.
Thanks so much!

So that identified the problem but do you want the same viewport to show on every page?

It would be better to put the viewport on an unshared layer. As it is every sheet will show the same scene from your SketchUp model and if you change the scene on one page it’ll change on every other page.

If you have more than one SketchUp view to show, don’t put the view on the “on every page” layer. Now, if you create more pages, the same floorplan will be shown on every one of them.

Ok, that sounds beyond my level of understanding ATM, I’m very new to SketchUp. The title block is meant to be on every page, but not that drawing.

So the title block should be on the shared layer and the model viewport on an unshared layer. You currently have that reversed.

Here’s an example layer list from one of my templates. The content that shows the same on every sheet is one the bottom layer in the list. The Model layers are for viewports with the bottom one being active so that the first viewport when inerting a SketchUp will end up on that layer.

Ok, I’m trying to get my head around that. Sounds like I should go back into the template i created and modify the set up there first? How so I modify an existing template?

Open a new file using that template, make the edits, and then use File>Save as Template again to save it.

Is that right now, the Layers?

Probably. On what layer is your title block content?

If you share the LO file it’ll be easier to see what you have set up exactly and give you more specifics.

OK. So you still have the viewport on the shared layer. Note the color of the bounding box and the maroon square next to the Layer name when the viewport is selected.

Here I’ve moved the viewport to the “Floorplan model” layer. Note the change in bounding box color and the square in the layer list.

Also note that the title block content is on the Default layer which is not shared across pages.

If you want all of that content to show on every page, it needs to be on the shared layer. I’ve done that in the next screenshot and I’ve moved that layer to the bottom of the list.

this is great but I can’t find the ‘camera’ tray anywhere? I assume that’s how i get that little red square to turn on?

No. Simply selecting content on the page will make the square appear to show you what layer the selection is on. And it’s possible to have more than one square appear if you have content on several layers selected. Here I’ve selected everything in your LO file. It shows there’s content on the Floorplan Model and On Every Page layers.

You can change which layer something is on by selecting it, right clicking on it, and going to Move to Layer.
