Trouble locking to red axes

Forgive me if this has been answered but after looking through related topics I haven’t found the solution to this problem. I am on Sketchup 2024 (because I also use enscape). Every now and then I run into problem with axes. That is using the arrow keys fails to “lock” to one of the axes. In the attached file you’ll notice that the door panels lock to the blue and green but NOT the red axes. The red axes is wonky. When I hit the arrow key it bolds the red line indicating it is locked but then does not behaved locked. What am I doing wrong? Why?

I can’t look at the model at the moment but I would guess the door component has gluing active. Right click on it and choose Unglue. Then you should be able to move it in any direction.

Another helpful, related tip in addition to ungluing the object is to use the left, right, or up arrows on the keyboard when you move an object. This will lock the geometry along the green/ red/ or blue axis.

Its saved me literally days worth of work over the years and dramatically improved how fast I can model

I have found the problem! The panels in the door were ‘glued’, which caused the issue. I have grouped everything and unglued the panels in the door. Now everything is back in place and should work properly. Hope this helps!

If that’s fixed the issue please mark Dave R’s respose as the solution - it saves others like myself scrolling through what is in essences a closed topic. Many thanks.

Wow I LOVE how responsive this community is. You all are amazing. Thanks all! I am unfamiliar with the glue feature so I’ll need a minute to investigate and ensure that’s the issue. But it seems others were able to verify and unlikely to be some other issue. I’ll mark the solution once I am able to verify.

Ok so I walked through this tutorial on the glue feature in components: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVoKMVklP-Y

When I set glue to “none” on the door panel component snapping DOES snap to all three axes as expected. So I will mark the solution.

But I still do not understand why the component fails to snap to one of the axes when the glue feature is enabled. Is there anyone who can point me to a tutorial on that? The one linked above doesn’t explain it. I’m having a surprisingly hard time finding one. No results when I search “glue” on the Sketchup Campus.

When you insert a component that has gluing properties enabled it glues to the plane parallel to the face you put it on. You can then move the component on that plane but you can’t move it off that plane. It’s as simple as that. If you don’t want the gluing property you can edit the component to remove it but then you may need to work a little harder to place it where you want it.
