Too Many Computers, but all previous coomp9uters are out of use

My laptopt with Sketchup 2018 was damaged when a water pipe burst. I’ve tried to install the program on my new computer, but I can’t add the license because I am told that it was too many computers. Those computers noi longer exist so I can’t deactivate any of the other licenses. This would be the ONLY computer the program would be used on. What can I do? How can I contact the company to deactivate all of the other computers?

Can you follow https://help.sketchup.com/en/deauthorizing-devices-amp ?

That won’t work as it’s for subscriptions - this is an old classic license key (SU2018) which has a fixed 3 computer hard limit to prevent mass activations of single keys.

Classic licences had a fixed limit of three activations. Activations were tied to specific hardware components within a machine. If key components such as a hard drive or network card were changed without first returning the licence to the activation pool, that activation was permanently consumed.

Although the licence was intended for use on a single machine, the additional two activations were provided as goodwill to cover hardware failure or instances where users forgot to deactivate before making changes

SketchUp 2018 reached end of life approximately 4–5 years ago, and classic licences are no longer supported by the support team.

At the time, customers who maintained active support and maintenance contracts received version upgrades and access to Pro support. If that contract had remained active, the licence would have been upgraded (for example to SketchUp 2020 or 2021). Those support and maintenance packages are no longer available.

@colin might know what to do

I did follow the link leading to deauthorize the license to previous computers. However, it indicated, “You currently have no plans or products assigned to you.” That seems nuts since I do legally have the 2018 product and the license information to go with it. It’s been used continuously by me since it was purchased as a 2017 unit and u0pgraded to 2018 according to the approved process. I was able to salvage the internal HD from the previous, damaged laptop. It is no installed in a housing as an external hard drive. I could not find a way to access anything to deactivate that previous computer. Do I have any alternatives?

I looked at your license, and there’s good news, and better news…

It looks like someone already solved the problem of activations for 2018, and you should be able to license it on a new machine. You may run into another difficulty, where 2018 thinks you’re offline. If you do, and you want to install 2018, read this topic I wrote nearly five years ago:

The better news is that during the time you were under support after buying 2018, we released 2019. Which means you have an available 2019 license as well.

I will send a message to you with the license details.

Thank you very much for your efforts to help me. The folks at TRIMBLE have taken care of my problem. Theu had also pointed out that I had the right to SKETCHUP 2019.Not sure why I hadn’t upgraded to that version, but I have it now. My download and activation occurred very smoothly and without the “not connected” issue. It was quite annoying to be told one wasn’t connected to the internet when I certainly was.

I am very thankful for the helpful responses in this forum and from the folks at TRIMBLE.

Bet,
