"Sketchup cannot start due to a license error"

Attempting to run SketchUp 2020 gives me error in title.

Saw this thread:

Tried removing AppData folders, uninstalled, reinstalled… same thing.

It took a very long time to figure out what the problem was. In the end it’s an issue in Windows itself, where on certain systems SketchUp queries some information from the system, and the system fails to return that information.

In SketchUp 2020.2 the code was changed to cope with the times when Windows fails to return that information. If you are seeing that error it is likely you are using a previous version of 2020.

The 2020 version download is the 2020.2 one, and you can immediately download it from this link:

You have a subscription, which means you can also use SketchUp 2021, which also has the same work around in place. You can download the installer from here:
