SketchUp 2026 is here!

I looked at your bugsplats, thanks for sending those in. They all crashed while loading Dimension Tools. I tried installing that, it looks like a useful extension. It seems not to have been updated since SketchUp 2015, but does still seem to work ok.

Did you bring over extensions using the Extension Migrator feature? It may be worth deleting the dimension tools files and use extension manager to install the rbz file.

The folder is named DBUR_DimTools, and the Ruby file is DBUR_DimTools.rb. They are in this folder:

%AppData%\SketchUp\SketchUp 2026\SketchUp\Plugins\

You can get a fresh copy of the rbz from this page:

I did show this at our meeting today, and people understood the need. We created a feature improvement report for this to be looked into. In our system it’s logged as SKOR-20938. Don’t know when it will be worked on, but hopefully someday soon.

I just installed SketchUp Pro 2026.

I’ve spent some time looking for improvements over 2025. No luck so far.

Basic native tools I, and many have been looking for aren’t there.

  • No Polyline

  • No Bezier Curve

  • Can’t dimension angles

  • No Baseline Dimensioning

  • No Text tool

  • Can’t round edges and corners

  • Can’t bevel edges

  • No improvement to OSNAP

Of course, there’s lots more one might ask for, but the foregoing items are basic tools in a CAD program. Oh yeah, I almost forgot: it costs more than last year.

I think you need to take a break, and probably also to install autocad, it seems to be more adequate for you.

I already have AutoCAD installed on another computer. Of course it’s an older version, before the price went up into the stratosphere. I much prefer SketchUp.

We have looked at, in particular hsdcad, it’s very cool, but given we create Cementitious SIPs (CSIPs), the detailing is beyond their current workflows. We’ve come up with our own system using SU and our own rather complex cutting list and linear production, and it “looks” to work a treat.

I say “looks” as we haven’t yet moved to automated production but have been assured that the data exported from our model is sufficient to drive it, being all are rectilinear. Our current workflow is the nomination of height, width and treatment of edges, of which we have around 50 to meet irregular uses required to meet architectural demands. That and any panel requiring special treatments will be drawn from the line once bulk work is done and undergo additional manual work!

@colin Huge thanks for escalating this! The speed and, moreso, accuracy of snapping will change our lives!

I have some layout issues to ask about…(btw this is on windows with latest updates, late model nvidia gpu wth latest updates and Classic Engine (not experimental)… And using simple template file without any SKP references included.

I’m finding several issues with text size/placement:

  • cannot type to select a font (have to scroll through a long list)
  • cannot type in a number to set a font size (eg if i want 6pt font). Some fonts allow different sizes to others (some are linited to 8pt min, whereas others are 7pt). Small font sizes are often used for “fine print” and small labels..so this lack of selection capability is annoying.
  • text transparency doesn’t seem to be working at all
  • when adjusting font size using shortcuts Ctrl±, the shortcut key doesnt work but the drop down menu item does. However once a font size is selected, the text size is prone to resetting itself or changing when selections are made or the page is reloaded.
This jumping text thing..is this supposed to happen?

And a few other issues:

  • Draft Mode doesnt do anything (i checked that K is indeed set to the correct shortcut)
  • I cannot drag a colour from the colour picker straight onto the shape style.

I’m guessing that migrating extensions from a future version might cause issues:

lol..do it!!

i got mine to work okay after a few restarts…its a nice tool!
(pretty sure it just copy & pastes the extension directory to 2026 :stuck_out_tongue: )

also, im noticing the bug in layout which involves a Cell not accepting a Fill Colour unless there is data in that cell. I think that’s a known issue…

is this cursor change intentional?
(instead of the usual arrow cursor, it looks like a text caret cursor)

Ooops I see a huge regression in SU in terms of clipping (graphics bug) - the final beta release (RC) version handled way better in this respect than the official release :frowning:

Oh, and over in LO, there’s an issue with the eyedropper: if you use it to pick up a dimension style let’s say, then usually the next dimension you do will be in the style you had just picked; here in 26, nope. You have to do your dimension, then go eyedrop>apply to the dimension you just did. A bit annoying, but not a disaster.

Hidden, among all the flashy features for this release, you can find the most important feature of them all:

Layout exports DWG with Sketchup Tags as DWG Layers now, and impecable structure.

Also, DWG imports into Sketchup got way better.

The next step is adding DWG text as Sketchup’s 3D text, as TrimBIM does and, if possible, allow it to be editable by adapting Thomthom’s 3D text editor right into Sketchup, and not as an extension.

That would close the cycle for 2D DWG drawings and would solve that DWG business for good.

It would be an ultimate relief for me.

It would be also great if rastered ISO hatches within sketchup could be converted in vector hatches when exported from Layout as dwg.

That poses a different problem. Hatches are raster, in SU. Raster files are distorted by 3D views. Then they are placed in Layout as 2D. They would need to account for parallel projections and, even worse, perspective distortions. Would you accept if those hatches would export undistorted?

I agree, that’s pretty nifty !

& also, let’s applaud the IFC import/export features which now do the job properly… it took a while

But it looks as if this aspect is now up to snuff.

Next stage, making it much simpler to add bSDD & bespoke Pset info, plus getting the whole geolocation thing to add the right coords to an ifcSite. But I’m confidant these will come sooner than later

speaking of hatches,

importing a dwg file in SU now brings hatches and fills. great.

fills are faces ,that’s easy.
hatches are a component that contains all the little vector lines of the hatch symbol. not as great.

as a future update, it could be good to have an option during import to convert hatches to a solid fill/face. because with a file like this

I get half faces, half lines.

I have my workflow with faceup, and I’ll keep using it for now, not that I import many dxf on a daily basis. still, a step in the right direction

hello,

can we have more details about

With this update, you can also easily revert to the original georeferenced coordinate system when exporting.

speaking about scan essential

@Jacques @yohann_salaun any insight on this ? when exporting to what ?

That would definetely be a way to SkeepUp!

Let’s see…

due to the need of sharing 2d vector plansets with other offices is the parallel projection to me the only use case where it make sense having the hatch to be exported as vector entity. Everything else could just be exported as raster.
