SketchUp 2026 is here!

I may take the plunge and install 2026 tthis week…eek!

Can i ask if there’s any particular reason why I can’t copy all my extensions folder across from SketchUp 2025 to 2026?

I very much doubt any of the extensions have been updated to 2026, but when they do get updated, they will no doubt alert me in the Extension Manager.

Use the extension migration tool, which appears during the installation.

That’s a CPU and running windows I guess. The last Mac machines with AMD gpu’s were released in 2019, in 2020 Apple released the M1. Jean’s machine is from 2017 and it doesn’t even have Apple support anymore.

Still no attention to the introduction of the SNAPS feature, which still doesn’t work! These offer serious benefits to panelised kit-of-parts buildings / modellers! Hopefully they will get some attention in ‘26.1. I’ve been busting to supply my client components in which they work so their worflow can be made blisteringly fast and accurate!

You can copy the extensions too. I did. It worked, like the other years. Update them beforehand, it’s better

@colin Your reply to my comment about snaps disappeared! Here is a link to a thread I posted about the issue. Inferences & Snaps

Essentially if a snap is emebbed within a sub group of a component, the snap handles aren’t readily displayed. In fact you have to fight to find them or know exactly where they are.

Secondly, if you put them in the top level of a component that contains a fixed size sub group, and scale that component the component scales, but the bounding box resolves to the original size, and no second scaling can be done accurately, ie: the component’s function is destroyed!

Strange that my reply disappeared.

Snaps have, so far, not been very good when in sub groups. If they work at all that’s a bonus.

Can you show an example of the second case?

This pops up so I am outta luck there
Sounds like good idea though.

I beg for them to work! Just for your interest as a use case:

In Australia we are battling a serious housing crisis! Our product has the potential to supply to and dramatically ease both site-builds and volumetric modular. For us, snaps have the potential to substantially speed up our workflow. We’re talking 1000 homes / factory or automated line / year! And for further interest, we achieve around 95% material efficiency with 90% of that 5% waste being directly recycled into same, but the entire system by weight is just 75% of the mortar in a single skin of brick. And all walls for a home can be installed in 2 days finish ready - all done through DC’s!

As an estimate, snaps will save us, I’d suggest around 10-15% in time per project.

In time I’ll put this altogether for a Sketchup news cast, the efficiency and optimisation of this building system will blow minds!

I’m just stating all this so you might understand the importance, to us, of just this one function, and I’m sucking up a bunch for your help.

Here is an example (model attached), left to right:

  1. Component with an embedded non-scalable subgroup,
  2. Component without such a subgroup, scales without issue, and
  3. Component scaled with a non-scalable sub group, here scaling of the component worked, but the bounding box has returned to original size, destroying the component!

Note: The subgroup has embedded SNAPS to inward corners and centre outer end, you can see that they don’t appear when the move tool is activated.

The very COOLEST of options would be a shortcut that highlights all embedded snaps and turns off all other inference points!

Do you have 25, 24 or 23 installed?

After upgrading to SketchUp 2026, Enscape is not working, including version 4.13 Preview. Additionally, it has crashed twice today for no apparent reason; I wasn’t doing anything when it just crashed. According to the prompt, it seems related to a plugin issue. I really wish I could understand the error report myself and identify which plugin caused the crash. The most recent crash was numbered Crash #668 and Crash #669.

Updated:Just now, I reinstalled Enscape 4.13 again, and this time I saw the long-missed prompt to restart the system. Now it’s working! But SketchUp crashed again.Crash #712.Judging by the increase in crash numbers, it seems that there aren’t many Mac users.

I love SketchUp and I use it for interfacing with lots of folks who use CNC for timber production and I’m getting more into panelization… but I don’t do the final shop drawings that go to the machine or production line, nor am I the manufacturer - so I interface with people who build by hand, have different models of European CNC timber processing machines. If I was the manufacturer running my own shop I would be using something dedicated and more appropriate for that side of the business.

Summary

CadWorks or HSBCad - which (as much as I love SketchUp) I think are far better suited for factory / production setting where you can use parametric modeling to ease your workflow. Why aren’t you using something like this:

Cadwork North America - Panelized Construction

AutoCAD Toolsets | Offsite Construction Software | hsbcad

DUH! An AMD mac graphics… my bad

Did you uninstall 2025 before installing 2026?

I don’t see any difference with 2026.

Coincidentally we have a meeting this afternoon to discuss tools things. I will show your model to people, and see what ideas we can come up with.

Pinned comment threads!!!

This is a huge step forward.

A small request that makes huge difference: Let me paste images from the system clip board instead of making me upload from the filesystem.

Just installed 2026 and it’s crashing left and right… 4 crashes in 30minutes… if it doesn’t “stabilize” I will switch back to 2025, that version only crashed about 2 to 3 times a day.

Strange for me, it’s the opposite. I only had crashes with the 2025, and after a few hours on the 2026, no bugs. I’ll see over time.

Glad it works out good for you. I just switched back to SU 2025 , I’ve wasted way too much time already today

any timeline for fixing the preferences → file locations? when i set the file location, it still keeps looking into the installed static folders vs the ones i set in preferences. it’s getting tiresome to have to remap them via directory links in order to get around the broken(?) configuration settings.
