I think I found a possible cause of SketchUp 2026 crashing on startup: Curic Scale+++.
What happened (my case):
SketchUp 2026 crashed every time I tried to open it (new or existing files).
I tried common fixes from other forum threads (including updating drivers), but it didn’t help.
After uninstalling Curic extensions, the crashing stopped.
The problem is: Curic Scale+++ won’t uninstall from Extension Manager. I click “Uninstall,” but it still appears (other Curic extensions uninstall normally).
I manually deleted it from the plugins folder: C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2026\SketchUp\Plugins
The extension disappears, but I still get an error message (looks like something is left behind).
Question:
***What’s the best way to fully remove Curic Scale+++ so SketchUp stops showing the error message?
Just to be clear: I’m not saying Curic extensions are bad. I’ve used them for years and I still like them a lot. I only want to remove this one for now and reinstall later when it’s confirmed stable on SketchUp 2026.
Also sharing this in case anyone else is troubleshooting startup crashes. Before deleting all extensions, it might be worth testing by removing Curic extensions first.
I don’t know why @curic4su hasn’t said anything, there are some of us that are experiencing this issue, deleting those extensions stops the crashes but we paid for those extensions and want to be able to use them, at least for me, curic scene manager and curic section are plugins that I use frequently.
I also use Curic extensions regularly and really appreciate them. I hope this issue can be resolved soon.
I’m sharing this here in case it helps others. After contacting SketchUp Technical Support, they suggested renaming extension folders then test if SketchUp can be opened without crash.
In my case, I noticed the crash started after manually installing Curic Scale++. Once I removed only this extension, SketchUp 2026 stopped crashing.
So instead of uninstalling all migrated extensions, it may be worth checking Curic Scale++ first if you’re experiencing a similar startup crash.
First, I’m very sorry for the late response. We are currently on the Lunar New Year holiday in my country, so I was a bit slower than usual.
Thank you very much for all the reports and detailed feedback. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to investigate and share your findings.
I am now looking into this issue carefully. I already have a few possible causes in mind and will work on a fix as soon as possible. Once I have a patched version ready, I will send it to you and kindly ask you to test it.
Thank you again for your patience and support, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
Hi, @curic4su !
After you return from vacation, will you also respond to this 2-year-old discussion, including the ping to you from just a month ago?
Thanks!
I’m in the same boat. I use scale ++ and like the functionality of the product. It has caused problems on older versions of SKP and, I believe, causes instability on the current version. I, also, cannot disable it in the extension manager as noted above. Also, Curic has ghosted me in my prior problems from far prior than the “lunar new year holiday.”
Yes, I know that. I was referring to the fact that the extensions he offered for free, such as Curic Space, Curic Align, etc… are much better created and don’t make the problems that the licensed ones do.
First, I sincerely apologize for the delayed responses, including some older threads I should have followed up on more carefully. I truly appreciate your patience.
Regarding stability: whether an extension is free or paid, I build all Curic tools with the same level of care and investment. Free tools often tend to be simpler, but with Curic I aim to maintain the same quality standard across all products.
Scale++ is more complex internally and includes additional protection. Over time, older protection methods are no longer sufficient, so I had to implement stronger measures to support long-term development. This increases internal complexity and can introduce compatibility risks, especially with recent platform changes.
That said, stability is my responsibility. I am actively investigating the startup crash and will release a fix as soon as possible.
Thank you for your feedback and reports, and again, I’m very sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks for the update. Curic Scale is very helpful for quickly checking dimensions. With just one click, I can see the overall dimensions, which really improves my workflow speed.
I knew that, but I wanted to try to get you to answer by talking about something general, indirect. Proof that any reference or answer to the post about Curic Single-Line Text is missing again this time.
I’ve prepared an updated build of Scale++ with adjustments to the initialization sequence and integration of the latest RubyEncoder loader, aimed at improving startup stability discussed in this thread.
The update is now available on Gumroad. Please download the latest version from your Library and let me know your results.
I just did a quick test using the file downloaded from Gumroad. It seems to be working now. I can open SketchUp 2026 without crashing.
What I noticed is that right after installing Curic Scale++, I still experienced the same startup crash as before. However, after closing all SketchUp sessions and reopening the program, the crash no longer happened.
So at this point, I’m quite confident the issue was related to Scale++.
Thank you very much for your quick response and action. I share a screenshot of the crash screen if it will be helpful. I’m not a programmer, but I’m happy to provide anything that may help.
By the way, I completely understand if future updates require a paid upgrade. Ongoing development and maintenance take time, and it’s fair to support that work.
