SketchUp 2025 purging problem (the solution turned out to be the use of Enscape beta)

@colin
Its RBZ is now available v7.0 from the SketchUcation PluginStore
https://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=PurgeAll
or using the ExtensionStore dialog to sidestep the RBZ download…

to be fair, most mac users that install your extension are tech savvy enough to deduce it  and also Colin :innocent:

in mac, on french, there have been several similar things over the years, odd translations, or buttons / fields that are too small for the translations.
we’re used to it.

Thanks, that looks better.

The resizing isn’t enabled for that dialog on Mac.

It’s sad that after many years a MAC’s inputbox is not as good as a PC’s - which is also a bit rubbish!

I have had the same issue whilst purging. Sketchup completely shuts down, no warning whatsoever.

For a longer explanation of Mac InputBox issues see this thread from 2016.

To go back to the original thing about purging, I have both SketchUcation & Enscape 4.4.x beta installed and can purge without crashing… Win 11 Pro 24H2 and a Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 graphics card with the latest driver.

Are you using sketchup 2025?

Yes, the official release version

Continuing the discussion from SketchUp 2025 purging problem:

Hi Colin,
I’m having the same problem with SU 2025. I get the dialogue box when saving a model and it asks to automatically purge the file before saving. I select “Yes” and the file crashes. It has happened with 3 different model files. I also tried purging from the “Purge Unused” button in Statistics, and it also crashes the file. I don’t get the option to submit a message when it crashes. Let me know if you’d like me to share a model that I’m experiencing this on. Appreciate your help on this.

It didn’t solve entirely. It’s happening again. Hit the purge button and it crashes.

Here’s a video of the crash. It happens with all the models. New, old everyone. My driver is updated. I’m using windows 11 beta version.

Well, what happens if you use a regular Windows version?

It crashes there too. I’m using regular on my Lenovo Thinkpad T480s. It crashes there too.

Have you tried the TIG extension mentioned above? PurgeAll | PluginStore | SketchUcation
It lets you choose what to purge. So, if you only select one at a time, maybe you can figure out what’s causing the crash…

Could you share one of your file (a small, simple one) that causes the crash?

little+houses.skp (15.0 MB)
I’ve just checked purging the file and it crashed on both my pc and laptop.

little+houses-purged.skp (15,6 Mo)
Hi, I just tested your file on a Win11Pro Beta 27802 laptop with a Nvidia Quadro P3000 GC with the latest driver & was able to purge fine (here is the resultant file).
Sorry, I’m not able to explain why, just that it can work !

No problem purging here either.
Someone else had similar problems that were possibly caused by the Enscape plugin?

Windows 11 24H2 (up to date but not beta); SketchUp 2025; Enscape Beta for SU2025.
I was having the same problem, even with a new file. Open a new file, delete Mr. ThomThom, Purge = Close (Crash)
A component has to be deleted. Then a purge. Then crash.
I uninstalled Enscape Beta, and now all is good.
