Thanks for the post @gkpbydesign. We did a major update to the graphics engine responsible for the modeling aspect of SketchUp this update was a lot of work on our end and has not been without issues. Additionally, there were major changes to some of the components on the Mac side of things that SketchUp relied on in the past. That was a major headache for us too.
Naturally there are some issues with the new engine and we are working to fix as many as possible as quickly as possible. I am by no means trying to excuse the crashing but keep in mind that we are working hard to do what we can as fast as possible. Keep submitting bugsplats if they show up after the crash and if you need a more immediate fix, post the crash report number to the forums and we can see what we can turn up. It may be a quick and easy fix that we can implement in our next update.
In the meantime, try switching to the classic graphics engine and see if that is more stable for your needs. Also make sure that you are using the right version of your OS and drivers for the version of SketchUp you are running. There have been reports of some issues being solved with a simple driver update on the Windows side of things or a OS update on the mac side.
Now you may be wondering why we re-did the graphics engine in the first place. I can not comment on future plans for it, but once we get things a little more bug free, we should be able to implement new āstuffā easier on our end and create a more robust app for users or at least that is what the engineering team said. Hopefully it makes fixing bugs faster too.
Thanks for the reply, if you release a feature unfinished and then charge your users, itās not a good look. I appreciate itās a big change, itās the first big change in a while from SU. Letās hope you can fix this soon.

Users having to fix problems
We recently had a Mac operating system up date, which made it bad.
Lost all my extensions when start up
Come on sketchup get it sorted
no need to post your troubles in two separate threads, especially since both of them are about crashes on PC and youāre on a mac.
in your other post you say youāre using an old intel mac with external GPU.
Is that even compatible with Metal 2?
And before you answer here, please consider opening a new thread dedicated specifically to your situation and your issues, youāre the first person on this forum to mention problems with an external GPU, and it deserves a separate thread, not being lost in a PC discussion.

The last message that it displayed was
sketch has produced a Bug Splat Iāve sent several error reports but Iām unsure how to fix it
First close SketchUp and LayOut if they are open. find the SketchUp 2024 installer in your Downloads folder. Right click on it, choose Run as administrator and then the Repair option. After it completes do a cold reboot of your computer and then try again.
Did you send the Bug Splat reports with your e-mail address attached? @colin could look them up and perhaps give some idea of what is happening.
Please correct your forum profile. There is no Free Plan of SketchUp 2024.
hi @DaveR i tried what you suggested but there is no repair option it just asks me do i want to make changes and when i click yes it bring me to the sketch up app home page.
the email address i used is my work email not the one i signed up
It may be that Microsoftās latest redistributable file is later than the one in the SketchUp installer. You could try their latest installer from here:
@Colin Are we expecting an SU update any time soon. Iāve had a bad day with crashing on a file that was ok yesterday. I have done multiple reboots trying to may be clear conflicts, but I have now reached the point that I have switched back to the old graphics engine and the same file is now working as expected. Itās not helping you if weāre all slowly going back to the old engine because reporting the bug splats is becoming a pain in the ā¦
