Sketchup 2024 Keeps Crashing

Hello Colin,

Hello Colin, Meanwhile I tried the 2024 Revit importer, I think there may be a defective part in this revit link (190_BT_3D_ARCH_INTR_0000_Revit); would you please take a look at this? Whenever I import this model the fan starts spinning very loudly and while spinning around in the model everything freezes.

Thanks in advance. Jan DC

SU2024 is slow and lagging when viewing a small (1MB) SU2023 produced model. It took me forever just to move an object as it kept being placed at the wrong coordinates due to the lag. I am not running any extensions. I’m running windows 10 with 16 GB memory.

Going back to SU2023

What does 190_BT_3D_ARCH_INTR_0000_Revit refer to? Was that a link to your file?

Yes Colin,
I imported the Revit Master file and then I imported that file, which is the interior model

Could I try your files?

sure!

it was in the link:

https://we.tl/t-NOSEKj5ILn

I hadn’t seen a link in your earlier posts. I have the file now, and trying importing it…

Okay, I opened the file in skp2022 and there is no lag. the settings in skp2024 where: New graphics engine, 0x

I changed the settings to the classic graphics engine, 0x, and there is still lag

The model imports ok, though takes a little while. There is some rogue geometry off to the side. The frame rate isn’t ideal, but then there are nearly 12 million edges in the model.

I tried a frame rate test in 2022, but didn’t turn off Profiles first. That was a mistake. Had to force quit after 10 minutes of waiting for the model to move.

That was on my work Intel Mac, I will try in Windows as well. Other than it being a demanding model that may not be very smooth even with the new graphics engine, what other problems should I notice?

Why Trimble insists on keepeping this harmful ā€œprofiledā€ style as default?

We’ve often wondered that, but at least with the new graphics engine Profiles have no performance cost. We don’t have to change the default now.

Thanks Colin, have you tested the model in 2024?

Yes. Tried on my work PC, that has a GTX 1660 GPU. Frame rate I saw in 2023 was 11 fps. In 2024, classic graphics engine, was 13 fps. New graphic engine was 26 fps.

Other than it taking some time to import, I haven’t seen any issues.

Thank you very much for the time spent! it’s quite strange that on my system (ryzen 9, rtx 3070Ti) the model freezes immediately after a few runs with the model. The Goldilocks plugin detected some overly complex clothes hooks, which I removed from the model along with the very distant geometry; still no solution.

Yes, 24 is also crashing when trying to place .gif images into a project. Partial crash log below:

This is just getting worse. I updated to SU24 Pro and had numerous crashes (dozens) so I decided to revert back to SU23 Pro. Now when I try to open SU23 the software simply fails to open at all 5 out of 6 or seven tries but then will inexplicably open and I can manage a useful session until I need to open another instance and/ or model.

Yes, I have fully removed SU 24
Yes, I have rebooted my computer many times.
Yes, I have re-installed SU23 (several times) to see if I could get it to function.
No, there are no recent bug-splats because the software will not open.

We are an office with multiple licenses and the only solution that appears to work is to do a factory reset on one machine and then a new install of SU23 which seems stable for now. That is not an option for our other two workstations as I cannot afford to lose the time needed to reinstall everything on the machine.

From my vantage point, this appears to be something associated to the Trimple licensing verification that the software runs when SketchUp is loaded. It was never a problem before our upgrade to SU24 but for now, at least, it has bricked my machine.

hi
2024 also is crashing for me. I see the following error: crash number #56462.

I’m not sure why you were shown that number. That bugsplat happened 12 days ago. If you send in another bugsplat, can you include your details? Then I can search for your name or email address to find the right one.

In the meantime, 24.0.484 did have some crashing issues that were fixed a couple of weeks ago. Here is the latest Windows installer:

https://download.sketchup.com/SketchUp-2024-0-553-221.exe

See if that helps.

SU24 ia by far the worse update in terms of crashing, I work in practice with 3 MacBooks, two on M2 and im on an i9 Intel, simply moving blocks can cause a crash. If it extremely temperamental, 2023 does not do this behaviour
