Shop version is becoming more dysfunctional by the hour

So then what’s the common denominator on your end? No one else reports these kinds of delays that you are claiming.

Yes it suggests it is something you are doing. The fact you are ‘squeaky clean’ could be the issue, perhaps one of your cleaning tools is removing something needed or blocking something.
Perhaps a firewall or antivirus is choking the system …

Mercury retrograde? I don’t know. But it figures.
Is anyone else complaining about the following?

Cannot edit materials/colors?
Cannot get shadows to function?

I’ve got that BIG TIME. Stuck with the raw color selection and cannot change color or scale of materials. “Edit” button is either greyed out. Or when available, the pop-out editing window simply pops away in a fraction of a second. No time to alter color, scale or texture.

As for shadows: Even SU Pro is having problems with that. And they’ve responded to my inquiry about it during my free trial period. Shadows don’t reflect the correct time or latitude. Nor do they cast on the ground.

To repeat: All previous (free) versions worked fine. And I first got acquainted with the program in 2004. This is the first time I’ve purchased a version and have had nothing but problems.

Clearly this is something on your end. Maybe that “unknown” graphics card you have.

If it’s all my problem, I’ll find a solution. Thank you for your attention and dedicated assistance.

You can only edit materials that are already in your model, not the ones in other material libraries.

Maybe start with disabling other extensions in the browser and see if it runs properly, then.
Trimble accounts can be very ‘sticky’ and perhaps it doesn’t stick to the Trimble ID that has the shop subscription.

Best practice, only have one security program running on the computer. I know a lot of folks swear by CC Cleaner. I tried it and I swear at it. It removed my email app.

Thank you. What helps one thing will kill another. I’ll try that.

I haven’t noticed any issues with shadows functioning. They’re very close to accurate, but of course don’t match latitude differences perfectly. You can use an extension to help a ton.

Can you show us a file where shadows don’t function? Which materials can you not edit?

Great you’re not having problems. But when I turn on Shadows, none are cast on the ground! But when set to 10 pm (not polar time), some bldg faces are bright and others are completely shaded! At 10 am, it’s all in the dark.

But all of this appears, as you inform me, to be my problem. I will need to consult a technician personally to determine the origin of the trouble. Never thought a paid subscription would cost so much and perform so poorly without resolution. The old days of free Google Sketchup worked perfectly without issue.

Share a SketchUp model file that exhibits these problems you are reporting. Let us see what you have going on directly.

It would really help if you showed us a model where this occurs, because users here would be very likely to find a solution to your issue that way. I mention that the issue doesn’t occur for me because, for all intents and purposes, we are using the same software and it is known that shadows can and do cast on the ground if settings allow it. If it isn’t a setting, it might be hardware. Hard to tell without seeing. But to reitereate, people here actually do want to help you, as you can clearly see.

Your model location does not match the time zone you are using to display the shadows.

Here’s an earlier version I tried printing (pdf).

Village 3.4.21.skp (4.38 MB)

As for the shadows, you have the model located near Brasilia, Brazil which is UTC-5 but you have the UTC offset to UTC-12 so of course the shadows aren’t correct.

After correcting the offset the shadows work as they should.

It would be a good idea to learn how to use Tags correctly. All edges and faces should be untagged.

Purging unused stuff once in awhile is good, too. This reduced the file size by nearly 66%.

It would also be a good idea to stay on top of the reversed faces in your model. There should be no exposed back faces.

Well, simple fix. You had the UTC offset at -12, so it was in perpetual dark almost. Once I fixed that, shadows showed up. You can also click (shadows) Display: on ground. And “Use sun for shading.”

So, it was kinda a problem you created. Thanks for sharing the model so we could solve that error. Bonus is that you don’t need to consult anyone

You said it isn’t possible to edit materials in SketchUp Shop. As I wrote before, that’s not what I see.

I’m sorry, but that is only one of very many combos I tried before I gave up. This is the one that was last on the list. All others were the same.
