My name is Salvo, and I use SketchUp Pro [2024 for my work. I am experiencing some technical issues when using the program with a dual-monitor setup, and I would like to request your assistance in resolving them.
My setup includes:
A laptop with a built-in monitor.
A Samsung Smart Monitor as a second screen.
The issues I am encountering are as follows:
When I move SketchUp to the second monitor (the smart monitor), the program’s dropdown menus still appear on the laptop monitor instead of following the application to the active screen. This complicates my workflow significantly.
Some installed plugins do not work correctly, while others do not work at all in this configuration.
The command bars for the added plugins are not displayed correctly; they appear misaligned or stuck on the wrong monitor.
I have already checked for updates to the program and the monitor drivers, but the issue persists.
I would appreciate it if you could provide guidance on how to resolve these issues. If needed, I can provide more information about my hardware and software configuration.
Thank you in advance for your support. I am available for further details if necessary.
As @ateliernab says - we had people show us this at 3D Basecamp. We found 2 bugs:
Because of the new UI on Windows, we discovered we’re storing potentially invalid values in PrivatePreferences.json, and we’re not checking those values if you relaunch and the values are larger than the current screen size.
The Reset Workspace button isn’t working.
The workaround we did for people at basecamp was to quit SketchUp, delete the file (validate I have this path right - I’m on a Mac right now) ~\AppData\Local\SketchUp\SketchUp 2024\PrivatePreferences.json and restart SketchUp.
You’ll lose some window positions, but at least they’ll all be visible. Alternatively, you can try to edit that file, looking for screen positions that are larger than your single screen.
I’m sorry @Barry, but PrivatePreferences.json has nothing to do with the mentioned errors in first post and quoted topic.
It can reset the Html based dialogs, the toolbar positions… but NOT in this case.
Unfortunately the fact is that SU2024 does not handle certain monitor configuration. The menus and undocked toolbars are displaying in other monitor.
As many times as you like, whatever, whenever, however you are doing.
The fix has not been released, therefore does not exist for SU 2024. Period.
OK, I’ll confirm… if I can get my Windows machine into this state. It did fix a user’s Extension Warehouse issue… and I thought we fixed 2 others that way, but I’ll try it.
Please believe me!
You probably won’t be able to reproduce the problem unless you have that particular screen configuration, such as an Asus dual-screen laptop. If you do reproduce the error, you cannot eliminate it with any of the official SU2024 versions. These are the facts.
Don’t waste your time, this is good advice, believe me, I’m absolutely certain what I’m talking about.
@Barry answered here but I’m pretty sure his mind was there
(because the case he’s describing and the reset workspace thing is exactly what I’m referring to in the other thread)
