That’s tough to hear. I’m currently using a student account so it’s not a cr ac ke d version of SketchUp, and unfortunately i didn’t do any backups to Trimble. Is there anything i can possibly try to do/check to recover the previous version’s atleast? since it’s the only file i have.
Unfortunately since you weren’t saving to Trimble Connect the two files you shared are probably all there is. Unless you made copies elsewhere. The files you shared are not recoverable at all.
I don’t suppose you have already started a LayOut file using the model have you?
No I’ve never started any LayOut file while working on this model. Is there absolutely nothing else i can do, aside from redoing it all over again?
For the third time, the file is unrecoverable. Starting over is the only option at this point. This time make sure you are saving frequently and saving a backup to Trimble Connect as weel.
I see, I will follow your advice. Thank you so much for your time and effort in helping me, I genuinely appreciate it. Have a great day.
hi @DaveR
i have the same proplem because I formatted my hard drive by mistake and when I recovered the deleted data the skp files no longer opened for me
That file is fried. No chance to recover it.
The file recovery method didn’t create a viable file in this case. Might as well write the file off and start over.
Is there no way or solution because I have many projects in the same situation and I will lose a lot, please?
No. There’s no way. The file you shared is totally scrambled. No way to unscramble it.
Lesson: Learn to use media backup to a separate physical storage device, and do it periodically like a half hour before quitting time every Friday.
I have some files that say “failed to open document” when trying to open them. I opened them in a hex editor and they come up with a bunch of letters/numbers, so hopefully thats a good sign. I had to put on a thumb drive to take off an office server. And now they will not open.
Here is the link.
Thanks a bunch if you can get them to open and be saved.
Maybe Colin can get something out of them.
Sometimes it is but I can’t get anything out of them. Where did you have them saved?
They were on a server, then they had to get moved to a usb drive.
That’s probably where the corruption occurred.
hello my sketchup file can not open pls help me to repair my life i drop my drive link
you need to provide access to the file.
now you can access my drive and pls solved my problem
how can find my file now have any other option
The file you share is corrupted and cannot be recovered. The last part of it is nothing but zeroes.
Where have you been saving the file while working on it? DO you have the .skb backup copy?
What version of SketchUp are you really using? Your profile says SketchUp for Schools which is a web based version for school children and 2025 Desktop. If you’re using the desktop version is it a cr acked license?
