Recent macOS updates leading to a crash when using the Colors palette in all versions of SketchUp

So your suggestion is to keep our materials in another skp file rather than just using the material folders … instead of SketchUp software fixing finally this bug that they have for over a year now in a software that we are paying for, not a “free software so just find a way around the bug” , no - that’s a properly priced software. It’s at the price point where it should be reliable and not crashing every time you change the material folder - literally every single time!

It´s a not a SketchUp bug, if you´ve read the multiple threads about this issue, you´d know that it is caused by some kind of implementation from apple in their newest OS (Sonoma), Trimble is trying to make apple fix this bug, but they already have fixed on their end and it´s going to be released with the next update of SketchUp 2023 or most probably with SketchUp 2024.

There are some works around but the best is to go back to Ventura, SketchUp 2023 doesn´t have support for Sonoma, and probably will never have, that´s why one should never update the OS until the softwares have support for the new OS.

I agree, SU needs to adapt to changes that hardware vendors make in their OS. Lots of complaints about this.

I have. Same problems what else?

They are fixing the problem, they have a workaround for now, and it’s not like you pay Autodesk kind of money for your license. So be happy.

I am not noticing the issue. I’m running macOS Sonoma and SketchUp 2023. The main difference I can see is that I’m on an Intel Mac and not an M chip. Perhaps there’s a clue in there somewhere about how it might not be just software related. Best of luck.

The thread is about solutions and explanations about this issue, if you’ve read you wouldn’t have commented “Please kindly fix it”

few month ago, just as I left home to go to work, I found out the road outside was gone, they were carving it to fix a water problem.

therefore, I couldn’t exit my parking.

So I called Renault, my car’s manufacturer, and I said “please, kindly fix it”

Then, I took the bus and arrived 30 min late.
(edit : I don’t remember what I wanted to say, sorry)

I was only seeing the problem on my M3 Mac, until the day Trimble IT updated my Intel Mac to 14.3. My colleagues on Intel Macs also see the problem.

Two reasons you would not see the problem are: you’re not looking at the materials section, or, you are on 14.2.1.

Yes. 14.2.1. I’ll stay where I am then

I had this bug with the Paint Bucket a year or so ago with an earlier version of SUP. Colin found a workaround for it. So to me it’s a SUP problem. Yes, it may also be an Apple problem but instead companies putting the blame on the other just fix the problem for the software that people are paying for.

To be exact, the way SketchUp was doing things has worked for over 20 years, and Apple made a change that makes the way it has worked no longer work. We have changed SketchUp to work in a different way, and so can fix the problem in future updates to SketchUp. It would take a change from Apple to make older versions of SketchUp work again.

I have Sanoma 14.3.1 and running the Latest SkUp Pro which I am paying for like everyone else. SkUp is my bread and butter. How much longer will it take for SkUp to find a solution? Are we talking days? Weeks? Months?

It would be useful for SkUp to give us a time line since I depend on it to make a living. If I have to wait months then I guess I’ll have to make a separate SkUp model will all my materials on it. But that will probably take half a day. Maybe even a whole day seeing that SkUp will crash every time I change Materials category. ie: wood vs marble materials. I have about 10 categories.

It’s hard to know, sketchup doesn’t have a public roadmap and employees who may know, are not allowed to share that information. Every year it’s taking longer for Trimble to release a new version, last year by this time sketchup 2023 was already released, exactly on February 16 and sketchup 2022 was released on January 25.

The release date varies quite a bit, and has a few times been well before the new year.

This time around there is a delay. I am looking forward to telling you about the next update.

Dear Colin,

Can you tell me if there is more info about the “paint bucket” crash? I have been working with the workaround so far, but it takes a lot of extra time. The next SketchUp-update with the paint-bucket fix is more than welcome.

Thanks in advance.

With kind regards,
Mathijs

The crash is fixed, but I still can’t give estimates about when an update will be released.

This should be an urgent update that isn’t dependent upon the next new release. Please give us a timeframe for when we can expect a solution. For people that rely on this product to deliver projects to clients, this isn’t a minor issue.
