I am having an issue. I recently switched to an Apple MacBook Pro from a Windows laptop. Naturally, the first thing I did was update the OS, naively thinking that established software companies would ensure their expensive flagship software works on the latest mainstream operating systems.
MacOS Sonoma has been available to developers for 7 months now, why not even a patch?
You should check first before assuming that all the programs you use are fully compatible with the latest MacOS, Iām still running Ventura and Iāve had no problem with the materials or any other crash caused by Sonoma.
According to Trimble the problem was because apple implemented something that causes the crashes when you try to use the color palette, though itās not a bug on their end they have already solved it and it will be fixed with the next release, I think sketchup 2024, an update for 2023 doesnāt make much sense. The problem with Trimble is that they don have an open road map and the employees are forbidden to talk about future releases.
Sketchup 2024 is delayed so I hope that it comes with most if not all of the bugs from 2023 completely fixed. Sketchup 2023 on windows was the first version built under a new API Qtframework, while sketchup was built with the old one, this year I guess the max version will be built with the same api as windows cause they want to unify both versions, that caused a lot of bugs last year for windows, I hope that theyāve learnt from that and the MacOS version is more stable, but weāll have to wait until they decide to release sketchup 2024. Other companies like autodesk will soon release the 2025 version of some of their products.
Do you have any idea when the update will happen? SKP bucket was working fine until last night and now, I canāt do a single thing. Iām learning the work around now, but that cause a serious delay in productively.
ok, thank you. I had a little heart attack this morning because of this because obviously, the day you need it most ā¦ something like this happensā¦lol.
Can you select colors from the already loaded library? Can you pick up colors from elsewhere in the model and paint with the bucket?. The problem most are having is that you cannot change library from the drop-down menu, or resizing the palette.
yes. You should read the first message, from Colin. the answers you seek are in there
He provides the default materials for people to import, and explains how to deactivate the colour panel yet still use the eyedrop to paint (using existing materials)
Hello, itās a really frustrating feeling when I canāt finish the project and the client has to wait. I really do not understand you as a software manufacturer, that you do not respond to the problem and wait for the 2024 version. Your approach threatens me that the client will penalize me for not meeting the delivery deadline!!!
Why did you decide to upgrade your MacOS while on a tight schedule? SketchUp is not supported on MacOS Ventura (if I remember the name of the latest OS version right).
Sonoma is major release for macOS, which has been available to Trimble Corporation developers for almost a year.
I am using a company laptop, and the IT department upgraded it with the latest OS. Itās not as though this $700 per year software is the only application I have to use for my work.
Currently, my SU projects are almost impossible to complete.
Is it too much to ask for at least a patch?
a month. the version that causes crashes was released a month ago. and these days, devs only get access to the betas when the public does, so july / august, depending on the year.
PROBLEM RESOLVED?
Just upgraded my MasOS to the 14.4 version that was released today (March 7) and it seems to be working as expected now. Hoping some of you power users can try it out and confirm!
My work machine is controlled by IT, and so is limited to 14.3.1. My own machine is always on the next beta, and probably is on 14.4. I hadnāt gone back to older SketchUp versions to see if the issue is fixed on Appleās side of things. I will try that when I get home!
