Please fix sketchup

Hello,

Today, I ran into a problem with SketchUp agaaaaain.
Apparently the same issue with matchphoto has been reported on layout, with a vague answer that is was not going to be fixed anytime soon. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Well it also occurs with the new graphic engine in sketchup pro.

here’s what a photomatch export looks with the old engine, or sketchup 2022 :

here’s what it looks like with the new one :

the image is duplicated / moved and that was with the “use view size” parameter checked !
it gets even worse if we upscale the output :

Now I don’t have time to switch from new to old engine back and forth and restart sketchup every time I do all day long.

For any software, these kinds of issues (just like the one with the non scrolling trays) , inferences absurdities, should be addressed with a hotfix.

Recently, a user reported an issue with V-Ray where objects had to be exploded/re-grouped for the textures to display properly. I ran into the same problem several times today, in vray and twinmotion (edit : and apparently enscape too) because the exact same thing happens in it, and I’m asking myself if the issue actually comes from SketchUp as the probability that two renderers from different studios are facing the same one is very tiny.

I’m really starting to wonder if I should go back to the 2022 version. And since all the ‘satellite’ services that SketchUp offers – 3D Warehouse, Add Location etc. – will stop working with it, I think I might just cancel my subscription altogether and return to my classic 2021 license while I’m at it.

Year after year, the working environment keeps deteriorating, and the time wasted is becoming more and more significant

It’s great to develop new features and try to look towards the future, but building on something shaky will never bring any good. I think it would be better to clearly identify the priorities, specifically fixing the basic functions that probably 90% of users don’t go beyond.

I hope these points will be taken into consideration. I believe with a little extra effort, the user experience can greatly be improved and I hope SketchUp will get back to the level of reliability it deserves SOON

same model 2022 vs 2024

2022 :

2024 :

Can we please have a working tool already ?

Strange, my pencil snaps/inferences fine in that scenario.

Like @nmason I am not having any problem that way.

This is with the new graphics engine.

Can you share the .skp file so we can see if we get the same behavior on a different machine

I found out why, the two elements were not perfectly aligned

but it still is strange that the behaviour changes from a version to another

Hello,

Still having many problems while modeling in 2024 version.

I’m starting to have some clues, but other things remain obscur.

Again, keep in mind that the model I’m working on has passed through many hands before me and includes imported dwg’s so it is far from being tidy (probably many UCS/Axes changes, with lack of precision) but I believe that’s where the problem lies, having a non-perfect model was fine before (to a reasonable extent).

in both classic and new graphic engine, in 2024, drawing a rectangle on a “not perfectly” vertical wall, it works just fine if the context is not a group :

2024 ungrouped

but it is misaligned if we group the slab used as a context :

2024 grouped

If we move this whole model just a few meters away, or wherever we move it, it’ll always be misaligned wether the context is grouped or not.

2024 ungrouped moved

In 2022 version, it works just fine in every situation :

2022

If you want to “play” with this messy model, originally part of a bigger one : test inference.skp (259.6 KB)

I know 2024 works just fine with a fresh, squared, tidy model. But we’re not all able to do so when working with parts that have been designed by many others, it’d take months to redesign every bit properly on a whole city-block masterplan scale.

now there is something else quite weird I also noticed with the new graphic engine, its tolerance seems to have changed : you can have two non parallel lines that are both considered lying on an axe, which wasn’t the case in previous versions nor with the classic engine (this very same line appears just black). that may be the cause of many problems, but I don’t think it is the explanations for strange things listed above as they occur with both engines.
