Photo matching is not working since I downloaded S2024
Still works fine in old S2023 version
Same Mac, same SKP file, same photo…
Have tried to check both boxes (foreground photo/ background photo) in Styles/Edit/X-ray/Match photo but still nothing happens.
It opens finder and I can select file but it does not appear in Sketchup when selected…
Suggestions much appreciated
I just opened a Layout file with a photo matched scene I lined up in Sketchup 2023. Looks fine when you look at it on the drawing sheet but when it is PDF-ed it looks like this.
This has been reported before and the SketchUp team is working on the issue. Hopefully it’ll be fixed with the maintenance release.
Great!
BTW, please update your forum profile. It says you are using SketchUp 2018.
For you DaveR I will do it…
Will do
Thanks for repply

Just downloaded the maintenance release. Not fixed…
No. It’s not fixed in that release. On the other hand, they didn’t say it was fixed, either.

Hopefully they’ll issue another maintenance release that does address this.
It’s incredible, isn’t it, how a known issue like this can exist in a new release and persist for nearly an entire version cycle of the software without being addressed AT ALL. This is of course pro software.
just use revit or archicad if you dont like sketchup?
What exactly is this bug? It only appears in Layout? or only on PDF export?
I love sketchup. I just expect more of it.
Great!!! Now when I get up and talk about Match Photo at 3DBC in November, I’ll have to address this! Ugh!
Well, yes I see this bug too:
I also confirmed that the export function in SafeFrames suffers the same issue.
My own standard workflow is to composite the image in Photoshop, not SketchUp, and in a way, this bug isn’t a problem for that; when I export the SU model without the background, it’s still the expected result.
However, if one still want’s SketchUp to do the compositing, there is one work around available to the Pro user despite the lack of a fix in desktop from the developer. SketchUp Web still exports it OK. Web and iPad can’t create or edit Match Photo scenes, but they can play them once created with the desktop version. (In fact, the web version offers the Mac’s ability to specify BOTH the vertical and horizontal resolution of a PNG output, so maybe even a feature for Windows users.)
Here’s the dialog in Web:
Here’s the result:
Not ideal, of course, but at least there’s a way.
Reverting to classic graphic engine in SketchUp pro is another way
srry i dont wanna ban because i told the truth :c
…
That seemed to work here (on Mac OS 13.7) for the output, but I return to SU and my screen looks like this:
I’ve seen some of this in the past few weeks. Closing and reopening the file seems to fix it, but not simply changing scenes and back again.
almost none of us on this forum has the power to have this fix instantly.
foolish methods are a way for us to still get an exploitable result despite the tool being broken. and as a community, we choose to share these methods with each other, dreaming of the day they’re not useful anymore.
same, I didn’t see it until someone addressed it here
side bar, this is a common issue with beta testing. beta testing is often open to advanced users, and they tend to have their own specific workflow. because we both composite in photoshop, this issue could have gone 100% unnoticed by us for a whole year.
beta testing programs needs less advanced users too that will use the tools in a “raw” manner.
And hopefully it won’t be disabled in previous versions before they fix it in the new version
