Photo match not working in Sketchup 2024

How is this not fixed yet? It’s now November and still having the same issues.

Why address that to me? I don’t work for Trimble and have no say in the matter.

I just want to mention again how inconvenient this issue is - I have a nicely created set of architectural drawings in Layout that includes a photomontage on one page. I have to now create my PDF, without the photomontage page, close SU 2024, then start up SU 2023, go through the painful Trimble account login rigmarole which involves waiting at least a minute for the 2 factor security code to hit my email inbox, create the PDF of that one page (no ambient occlusion because it is the old version), then open them up in my PDF program and recombine them back into a single document. And if I notice an error or something on one of the drawings, I have to fix it and then repeat this procedure…

As @paul.millet mentioned earlier, turning off SketchUp’s new graphic engine seems to be the best solution for now. I was able to get results that way from SU 2024 > LO 2024 > PDF with these results:

When I turned SU’s New Graphics Engine back on, it broke not only the new reference version I placed in LO but the previous one above that had just worked moments before.

I’m not an insider or a programmer, but it seems to me from this experiment that what SU is set for matters when you’re in LO and update a reference even if LO is set not to use the new graphic engine and the reference is in principle a file saved to disk.

Going back to 2023 is a way to get to back to the classic graphics engine, but my test found setting everything to classic graphics in 2024 got a workflow that worked, at least on my setup. (MacBook Pro M1 Max and Ventura)

Isn’t that essentially the same as downgrading to 2023? Besides the new graphics engine I don’t think there was anything else in 2024 that was new.

Results wise, sure, but launching 2023 and all the details involved with that is just a lot more work.

One change I did stumble on is when editing a Match Photo in 2024, it no longer allows you to orbit out of the photo with native navigation tools. You still can with the 3D Spacemouse, but not the middle wheel of a regular mouse. Probably was done because people would do it accidentally and then not know what to do next (just hit the scene tab to bring it back).

I think this is now fixed with 2025. I didn’t test it super extensively, but the weird tiling of the photo seems to be fixed. I struggled with getting reasonably high resolution out of Layout, however. I can get higher resolution straight out of SketchUp.

yes it’s been mentioned in the release notes, in the bug fix section

(better late then nevah)
I just replied to the “Hopefully it’ll be fixed with the maintenance release.” by adding the “And hopefully it won’t be disabled in previous versions…”.
It wasn’t personal :v:

It’s been fixed? I haven’t had a chance to download SU2025 yet… partly because I’m using Enscape and the current build is only compatible with the beta version of SU2025.

yes, it’s fixed in 25.

you can have both versions installed
