Online Test URL

So I am wanting to change the Online Test URL because I block both Google and Bing on my machine.

How do I do that for Sketchup 2017?

and if no one knows; how do I change it in 2021?

Did you check in the resources of the ProgramData

Mike’s article is good for older versions. For 2021, read this article:

On that page, search for: “Alternatively, if you would like to change the URL that SketchUp uses to test connectivity”. That will spell out exactly how to change the preferences file to look for something other than Bing or Google.

Yes I have tried this,

This thread,

%LocalAppData%\SketchUp\SketchUp 20##\SketchUp\ Does not exist on my computer, or I don’t understand it correctly. There is no last item. There isn’t a folder entitled Sketchup. It will simply launch sketchup.exe.

I cannot locate PrivatePreferences.json even doing a full search of all the documents on my computer.

C:\Users<your user name>\AppData\Local\SketchUp\SketchUp \SketchUp ought to exist, but it is by default a hidden folder.

View hidden files and folders in Windows 10

Windows 10

  1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
  2. Select View > Options > Change folder and search options .
  3. Select the View tab and, in Advanced settings , select Show hidden files, folders, and drives and OK .

Anssi showed the structure of the full path, but you are able to copy this text and paste it into the path field of File Explorer, and it will take you straight to the right place:

%LocalAppData%\SketchUp\SketchUp 2021\SketchUp\

In that folder you will see PrivatePreferences.json, and that’s the file to edit.

If you have extensions hidden, the name will show as PrivatePreferences, but you can still edit it in NotePad.

Oh wow that was way easier than I thought it was, thank you so much all of you

Argh, well apparently the website I tried to use as replacement wasn’t suitable because it still says I am not connected to the internet. I’m quite sure that the Online Test URL is the problem because if I unblock google it does connect to the internet. Anyone have a website that fits the criteria, that isn’t bing, google, amazon, yahoo, facebook, haha I have blocked lots of things sigh, still thank you for the help.

Can you use the URL of whatever email you use, even if it’s

Or, you seem to have access to that one.

Neither of those seems to work as well as quite a few others I have tried

Yeah I don’t know nothing works wells fargo, MSN, verizon, sketchup, my own website…

But as soon as I unblock Bing, it works.

I can’t even find the files for Sketchup 2017

The SketchUp 2017 file to edit is in this folder:

C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\Resources\en-US\

Edit the file name i18n.dat. It’s line 13 you want to edit.

You could also try editing that same file for 2021, here:

C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2021\Resources\en-US

It seems to not have these two lines:

I don’t know if adding those will work in 2021, but it’s worth a try.

Something else to try, there may be other things that are preventing http from working. Make sure that you use https://.

I have tried both http:// and https:// websites :frowning:

Did you try the i18n.dat file in SketchUp 2017?

I haven’t been able to locate that one :frowning:

This would be the path to paste into File Explorer:

C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\Resources\en-US\
