No load in LayOut

So this is the Second version of Layout that isn’t working the way Layout is supposed to work.
LayOut (LO) in my version of 2022 was corrupted - it would never load up… now in this new 2024 version of LO it’s happening again. Is this normal in SketchUp that every other year I can expect LO to be corrupted!

What do you mean it doesn’t “load up”?

I expect if LayOut isn’t opening on your computer, SketchUp and LayOut weren’t installed correctly. Try repairing the installation by finding the installer in the Downloads folder. Right click on it, choose Run as administrator and then choose the Repair option.

Also please update your forum profile.

Ok, What you asked has been done however, Layout (LO) is attempting to load, but can’t. It keeps flickering on and off - so no operation can be done. LO closed on it’s own without me doing anything… after 1 minute 12 seconds of watching the flickering.

Your description this now implies to me that your graphics card is not up to the task. You could try updating the graphics drivers.

FWIW, if LayOut was corrupted, everyone would have the same problem. They aren’t so what is different on your computer?

Curious, if your theory stands wouldn’t that also effect SketchUp, of which it does not.

The graphics engines are different.

Again, if your assertion is correct that the shipped LayOut application is corrupted, everyone using it, at least on Windows would be reporting the same thing but that’s not the case.

Dave, Below is my Graphics Card and Operating system… more than adequate for this new version of Sketchup.
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 [up to date]
Operating System: Windows 10 [up to date]

I was going by your profile which before you updated it indicated an integrated GPU.

By the way, please update the rest of the profile info. The operating system should be Windows 10 not 23.

So LayOut just flickers when you try to open it? Did you install SketchUp and LayOut on the C drive?

You say you had this problem with LayOut 2022 and now with 2024. Your profile indicates SketchUp 2023. Does LayOut 2023 work as expected?

Dave as you know, LO is a sub-program to SKP. When I load SKP I get LO & Style Builder (SB) automatically. Since LO is corrupted SKP would have to be corrupted too however, that isn’t the case I do like using SKP 24 with the new graphics engine and ambient occlusion but I can’t use LO because it will not load. In 2022 I paid for SKP 22 on Black Friday because SketchUp was having a 33% off sale. After loading it SKP, LO would never Load and the open screen would come on but never load the program. So SketchUp developers gave me (for free) the 2023 Beta Version and told me to use it and report any and all bug splats that occurred. This was done for 6 months and for being a Beta user the developers gave me SketchUp 23 for free. SKP 23, LO 23, SB 23 are awesome programs that I used very effectively. This new version SKP 24 - LO is showing the same corruption as in 2022. I fear that I must return to SKP 23 since this trouble ticket is going in a short story direction that I didn’t anticipate for. Thanks Dave for your help.

Try renaming the (hidden) folder here:
%AppData%\SketchUp\SketchUp 2024\LayOut
(SketchUp and LayOut should be closed)
Rename to something like old_LayOut

These folders are user specific and won’t be affected when reinstalling/removing an installation.

Than fire up LayOut.

WOW, Mike you are my new SKP Best Friend. You must be Einstein’s twin. I did what you said and it works perfectly. I will definitely keep this hack on my short list. You are an amazing SketchUp Master.

Please mark then the post as solved. The right post should be as photo below

I don’t know if this is worth saying, but that hack Mike shared with me fixed the Layout 2022 problem as well… I just can’t open it because I have excided my activation time… But after doing the Hack in Layout 2022 the program finally worked. It is clear to me now that without the SketchUp community we would all be floating in an ocean of problems waiting for a miracle of rescue. Thank you Community for helping me believe in the power of many - out weigh the power of one!

You must mark as the right answer @MikeWayzovski solution not mine.
