Model has disappeared

Is this what you are expecting to see?

it’s part of it, and helpful but there was a lot more in the file

There’s something placed at a vast distance in the model. What I showed is what could be selected and copied with Ctrl+A. Still trying to find the rest. It’s a mess, though.

I found this. How in the world did you manage to create that?

This object is 406,720.387 miles long! Nearly twice the distance to the moon.

I deleted that group and this is what’s left. It’ll be easier for you to rebuild it than to fix it.

What version of SketchUp are you really using? There is no Classic License for SketchUp 2022. Is it actually a cr acked version?

You were working with the Camera set to Parallel Projection and you had Fog enabled.

Is this what you expect to see?

I’m working on your model. You’ve made it very difficult to repair and it would be very difficult to work on as you are constructing it. You have nearly 6000 groups all named “Group” which makes it impossible to identify exactly what they are from Outliner.

Your entire model covers a vast area. I made a temporary group to contain all the objects in the model and get these dimensions.

The width translates to 357692301003234600 light years! (If my back of the envelope calculations are correct thats about 26,496,296 times the width of the observable universe) Height and Depth are even greater.

I also fixed incorrect tag usage.

And purged unused content.

I also reduced some excessively large textures.

I’m not sure that all of the groups were copied but this should be most of your model without the objects on the other side of the universe.

There’s some other weird stuff in your model. Are you using a cr acked version of SketchUp?

Hey Dave, I just came across this same issue and can’t seem to recover my model. Any chance you would be willing to help? I would greatly appreciate it!!

Share the file and I’ll see what I can do.

Everything was fine until I downloaded some drawer pulls from the 3D warehouse and brought them into my model. I hope the model can be recovered.

Here you go. There was some stuff located at a huge distance from the rest of the model. I deleted it along with some loose geometry that was also placed at a distance.

I also fixed incorrect tag usage.

And purged unused stuff. There wasn’t much but you want to stay on top of that and not let it build up.

Thats amazing…. Thank you so much Dave!! You are a Legend :flexed_biceps:

It is strongly suggested that you import 3D Warehouse components in a separate file or instance of SketchUp to avoid creating problems with your model.

Then, if required, you can fix the imported component, then import it in your model.

Great suggestion. I will do this moving forward. Thank you very much!

Hi there! I’m having the same issue where my model suddenly disappeared and nothing seems to be working, would it be possible to please help? have a deadline tomorrow morning :sad_but_relieved_face:

Well, we might be able to help you if you share the file. We definitely cannot help you if you don’t.

Are you using a cr acked version of SketchUp? Where have you been saving the file while working on it?
