HEEELP !!
I have worked on a 60 pages layout document. SKP file is 300 Mo (cleaned/purged).
First question : is it normal that my LO file is 600 Mo (I already tried to clean it)
I worked in “Tramé” = light version of LO and now that the file is finished I tried to turn each page in Hybrid. It worked slowly but I worked. Only the last page bugged and now the file is totally bugging (some elements do not appear anymore, “warning” sign appeared in yellow won some pages, and no access to SKP file anymore)
I went back on my previous “Tramé” version, and tried to export at least the pdf in high definition format. In medium and Medium it works. But high/high it does not work. In medium/high it worked. But still not the best definition. And if I tick to hybrid format it does not work at all.
So… How can I do to have my PDF file in hybrid quality ?? Do you have any idea ???
Are you working in Raster and using the Hybrid over ride only during export?
Are you using excessively large textures in your SKP model?
Are you using a lot of components from the warehouse? Often they are overly detailed and bog LO down when rendering.
You could share the file with DropBox or WeTransfer so someone here might be able to take a detailed look.
If you can open the file you can do a save as and break the file into smaller segments - I often have A, S and TF drawings. They all go in one PDF but I make them with 3 LayOut files.
There’s an issue that you may be running into in which the LayOut file gets bloated with a huge number of style files. That’s been sorted out in LayOut 2025.
I expect in a few hours at most although I have an online student in about 15 minutes.
The first thing I see is that you have two SketchUp model references that are quite large as well as some very large image references. They account for most of the file size.
OK - all should be on the version 4 (not 3)… I thought it was all clean but no..?
How can I correct and see that ?
That is why the file is like double my SKP file (300 Mo) ?
So only one SketchUp refernece? Go into the References list, select the V3 file and click Relink. Navigate to the V4 .skp file in your project folder and choose it. That effectively eliminate the V3 file.
I’m guessing that you relinked individual viewports to the V4 model. Is that right? The better way would be to go to the References list and relink as I described. That would prevent you from missing a viewport or two from the old version.
It was a good day to get out of bed, then. You learned something new!
No. I opened your LayOut file with &Zip (an unzipping utility) and showed the contents of the Ref folder so I could show you the size of the SketchUp file(s).
You ARE in the right place to fix it. I would suggest that you select the V3 SketchUp file, click Relink and choose the V4 SKP file. Assuming the existing V4 reference is the same file you are relinking to, the V3 skp reference should just disappear. If you still have two .skp references, select the old V4 reference and relink it to the same file. When you get don’t getting all of the viewports linked to the same SketchUp file there should only be one SketchUp reference in LayOut.
I haven’t finished yet but I looked at your V4 SketchUp file to see what that shows since it is quite large. I saw and fixed incorrect tag usage. Remember that all edges and faces should be created and remain untagged. Only groups and components should be given tags.
There are some huge textures in your model. Really there’s no benefit to having those huge texture, especially 14,000 pixels wide. There’s part of the reason for the huge file size in SketchUp.
I’m still not finished with your file but so far I’ve reduced the size of the .skp file by 45%. That would have a carry-on effect in your LayOut file, too.
Than you so much for looking closely to my file !!
Haha yes it was a good day and the bug was worth is as I learned a lot
I now better understand the “reference list” and how to clean the file. I only used to use the “Purge” function but had never " relinked" the available files to the valid/final one… And above all I now know that I can use just one button !! I have now done this manipulation and it immediacy divided the weight of the LO file by half !!
For the tag usage I know… This file is shared with 2 members of my team… and I know there should remain untagged and I ask them just to use the tag on the final group.. I did no know it could create pb with LO…
There is probably few unused stuff because I clean my SKP file regularly (unused components / materials) ?
Materials : I must say I never check the size of the materials. Good to know ! How can I see there size and where could I resize them ? What format do you recommend ?
MANY THANKS AGAIN Waiting for your further inputs and recommendation !
