I’m doing my first Layout file using 2025. When I add a dimension the lines are there but the number is blank. I know the file is linked to the SU model because when I use a label on the layout viewport it gives the correct dimension. The sqm label works too. See screen grab in the first instance.
I have tried copying the viewport to a new layout file and relinking but it still doesn’t work. Copied it into Layout 2024 and it works fine, but still doesnt work in 2025. Help! I don’t want to keep doing stuff in 2024. Thanks.
This appears to be a Mac-specific bug. What graphics engine are you using in LayOut?
Font issue?
I’ve been switched over to 2025 for a bunch of ongoing projects and haven’t seen anything in my work - curious if I can try and get this result. But I am working in imperial, exclusively in the new engine.
There is another thread where a Mac user reported the same thing. I copied the contents to new pages on my PC and the dimensions appeared. After sending the new LO file to the owner she had no problem with the dimensions displaying.
Yeah - would be curious if ends up being font issue. They would likely all be replaced when you open it and save it.
The font in the document I fixed was set to Verdana so there wasn’t any replacement in the file when I opened it. Label text, also in Verdana, displays fine.
Is there anything you can share for 2025? I could make some random guesses but an example file is better.
Random Guess #1 - your font is set to white. Cmd-t and look:
Rando #2 - Font is super tiny? I can see a blue arrow - hit cmd-t and what’s your font size?
If I make my font size 1pt, it looks like this:
Rando attempt #3 Use the pick style to make that dimension match the style of another dimension that you CAN see, somewhere, anywhere, even in blank page space. Then,
- Select the dimension you have selected.
- Hit ‘b’ (default shortcut for copy style, a different shortcut in 2025) - Eyedropper cursor appears.
- Sample (click on) your working dimension with text. Bucket cursor appears.
- Click on your dimension without text.
Does anything change. Let’s start there and see if any of that helps.

You responded to me but I think you wanted to respond to @jo.hobbs
When I started typing, yours was the only response, Dave, so I thought it’d work. Let hope something worked for @jo.hobbs

FWIW, on the file I worked on the other day for another user, the font color is set to black and 18 point. There’s a label shown in this screen shot that is in the same font but is 9 pt. Same font.
As I wrote in the other thread, copying the content to a new LO file fixed it.
Copying some of the dimensions and the label and pasting them into a new document.
Hi Barry, thanks for thoughts!
Rando 1: definitely not white
Rando 2: Font not tiny
Rando 3: Opened a 2023 Layout plan with dimensions in 2025, some dimensions were there but some had done the same as my issue which was strange. I copied a visible style, clicked on missing style and the dimension line visibly altered but text was still blank. See screen capture vid..
When I asked about the graphics engine I meant which one LayOut is using. Look in Settings>Performance under the LayOut menu to the left of File.
Ah sorry. Experimental. Ive turned it off but still the same. Problem file here…
@Barry can take a look at the LayOut file and it may help him and his team to identify the problem. I did copy the content to a new LO project and the dimensions appeared.
Had a Eureka moment… I think it’s to do with templates. Copy and pasting a bad dimension into a new layout native template worked. Some of my own templates worked but some didn’t. Can you suggest what I can do with my current templates or shall I redo them from scratch in 2025?
I wonder what it would be about your template that would cause this. I did just start a new file using the shipped A3 grid paper template. Your template doesn’t seem to have much in it. Mainly just a Dimensions layer in addition to the Default and On Every Page layers.
Did you do anything else to set up your template?
I don’t know. It’s one I created in 2023 Layout and just brought across when I upgrade. I tried resaving the same template as a new template in 2025 and the same problem happened, so I think I just need to redo all my templates!
Hmmm… Maybe. I haven’t seen any issues with old templates or old project files of mine but I’ll keep an eye open.
