How to enter a radius for rounding corners on ipad

How do I round a corner with a specified radius on iPad. It’s so second nature to me on desktop but I’m curious about using the iPad for more than I already do. Finding it slow going. I must not be seeing something obvious, using the arc tool I can get a magenta inference at a corner but then typing a radius does not adjust the arc? What’s the secret here?

Not near my Ipad so unable to check.

@Danimaupin Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope. What am I doing wrong here? Must be somthing simple I’m too dense to see. I have searched around but can’t find any info on this, surely there is a way to input a manual radius for a tangent corner round?

I find it hard enough to put down a tangent arc at a corner, but somehow manage to get an initial attempt. After that I can select it and change the radius in Entity Info.

I feel your pain. Glad it’s not just me. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I usually live in arbitrary land, but trying this, I’m not having any issue?

In just draw mode, I put in the radius and lay it down, then select it and change the radius in the entity window and it snaps to whatever I typed in. Am I doing it a stupid way?

I’m sure that’s not the case. I’m hopeless in on the iPad, I use it all then time to navigate my models in the field but when it come to actually modeling anything I’m all thumbs. I can’t even get a corner arc to finish, mush less choose its radius. :disappointed:.

I chose the arc tool, start on one edge, drag out to an adjacent 90 degree edge and the reference arc turns magenta, it’s a random radius but so far so good. But I can’t seem to finish the arc, how do I tell it to set the arc there? If I touch anywhere it cancels the arc, if I change tools it cancels the arc. If I enter a dimension it goes wacky. I can’t even make a corner round of any radius, what a dunce😂.

Colin said he got a corner arc to adjust after setting it, I would love to see any video on this, is this covered on the Campus? I’ll go check.

You say you put in the radius first? I can’t manage to put in anything but number of sides before starting the arc. Must be some sort of order of operations thing I’m doing wrong.

EDIT:: AH!!! You’re having the same issue that I sometimes have where there’s no elegant way to finish an arc that has already magically assumed its desired position. Let me grab my old iPad and pencil and see if I can make it happen there… the new pencil spoils me immensely.

Are you using the pencil? Just draw? Or click move click?

This is the basic order of operations that I use, even though it’s not for iPad.

I hope I’m answering the question…. But here’s the basic with my not-trademarked pink pen over-drawing. Just draw mode with the newest pencil (which enables hover and spoils me).

Okay… in case the main issue here is the same issue that’s been around for a while….

I tried it out on my older iPad with the Apple Pencil 2, which does not hover function.

And I remember complaining about this in the past.

So…… when you drag out the arc and see the magenta inferencing, it’s not done when you let go. You have to then tap the center of the arc and drag it out, even though it looked to have magically done what you needed it to… it did not. You now have to move it off the magenta and back again before letting it go.

Thank You, have it now! Several things I was doing wrong that you have cleared up for me. Dragging out the bulge to reset the magenta inference for a second time was the first, in pro it’s click one side, click the other side when magenta and done, so this I missed this extra step. And secondly I erroneously assumed I could type the radius into the VCB or floating value box calculator thingy. I don’t use entity info to round corners in pro despite Aarons video, I much more commonly use the method Aaron alluded to but did not explain which is to drag a magenta inference, then immediately type the desired radius, so quick, so I stupidly thought I could do that here, old dogs. Sheesh, that’s a lot of steps just to round a corner!

Anyway I would not have figured this out without your step by step guide. Thank you iPad Obi-Wan.

In all honesty, it’s easy enough to just measure something simple like a square or rectangle and just drag it out without needing to go through the entity box. It’s when you’ve got some crazy angles that the entity box becomes nice/necessary.

And if you’re doing multiple identical arcs, you can double tap the corners to recreate just like in pro.

I can still do it with a simple double tap then type the size I want and enter.
Bad vid but difficult to hold your phone and ipad.

Thanks, good to know how to get it done, still feels like a very slow grind. I’m slowly trying to understand the iPad version better, looks like a great tool for making imprecise 3D “sketches” but it continues to be so much slower than my pro workflow that I have a hard time giving it a chance, within in minutes I contemplate throwing the ipad out the window

See, that’s exactly the behavior that I was expecting, but I can’t for the life of me get the arc to finish by a second tap, the whole thing disappears. Grrrrr. @Box do you have a fancy pants newer apple pencil too? Maybe it’s my hardware?

Lift off after the magenta click, then go back and double click.
I have original pencil.

Just tested this on both the apple 2 pencils and pro pencils and it works for both! Excellent!

Sorry, I would have posted earlier but I was busy for a few days and not near my ipad.

THAT IS THE MAGIC!! Double tap, why is this stuff such a national secret at Trimble? Now it all works as expected, arc is formed and VCB takes the radius as input immediately. You have saved my iPad from a premature flight out the window!

Sorry to hear about your day my friend, my condolences.

It works! Hard to teach this (me) old dog new tricks. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Thank you all.
Now I just have to remember the trick… mmm.

Still struggling with this, even on 7.0

I lift my Pencil Pro 2 off after getting tangency and it disappears. I try to 2x click but as soon as I lift the Pencil it disappears. What am I doing wrong?
