Hot news: SketchUp 2022 is here!

That was biggest changes I’ve seen in a long time… Before writing a new post I want to ask First if there were some changes made to Texture Positioning… I mean in 2022 when I wan to manipulate textures all 4 grips are now the same Black and White and all work in a Shear/ Distort fashion… Is it some installation error? or it really suppose to look like this… if so, is there a way to somehow use again traditional Move/Scale/Shear/Distort handles.? I tried Ctrl, Shift, Alt… doesn’t seem to do the trick

Right click context menu, Fixed Pins.

That was quick… Thanks… I can see the benefit of new arrangement, but move and scale grips are useful

It’s not new.

somehow I don’t remember it from 2021… I checked it… I guess in 2021 ‘fixed pins’ were by default checked on…

It is exactly the same going back as far as I can remember.
You may never have unticked fixed pins before, you may have accidentally unticked it this time or it may have loaded that way as the default.

Another issue… I have file made in 2021 with elevation scenes saved in parallel projection… When I click a scene tab all is fine except I can not see anything… I can change slightly the view and it will all be visible again. Actually I have to orbit it. Zooming or panning doesn’t cause it to change clipping… Is there another way to refresh clipping? I mean in Elevation or Plan view orbit is the last thing I want to do. Clipping was suppose to be better adjusted (so I read) so maybe it is issue of changing from 2021 to 2022. So far I didn’t notice significant difference in clipping… on big models still geometry disappear in front of my nose. Though I didn’t compere the same model in both…
PS… Actually the fact that orbit readjusts somehow clipping is a noticeable improvement… In past once it started clipping there was nothing You could do…

Have you downloaded the most recent version of 2022, there was a fix included for this issue in the maintenance release 22.0.354 for windows.
Can you also update your profile.

You said enough for me to be fairly sure that you are using 2022.0.1 (the 354 build). For now, use the look around tool to tweak your position slightly, then when it looks good enough update the scene.

We’re still trying to figure out the blank views that you are seeing.

I had just now yet another problem with going between 2021 and 2022… With north angle… Till Friday i did not notice it and images I was exporting indicate that all was correct that time… Today I was exporting Elevations again from 2022… from Enscape but it fallows shadows in sKetchup…
Shadows was the problem… direction of it… For some reason all shadows sturted tu apear like me north angle was turned around 90deg left… I was thinking it had something to do with the Solar North plugin… I used it with every scene … with “Enable scene transitions” turned off i can save north angle per scene… But is was not it… I went back to 2021 to check if it will be correct there but it wasn’t… Then I noticed my Geolocation was on default and when I set it up for accurate location of my project (South Korea) all came back as it was… Went back to 2022 and still OK… What I can not understand is when and why it decided it will take geolocation into account… I mean, I didn’t touch geolocation settings from beginning of project… certainly not between exporting images on Friday and on Monday… And how it new where I was… It is like 2022 found out I am not in the default set location and tried to correct it somehow with my current… or opposite… Has 2022 got some ability of finding automatically geolocation? or Time zone from my clock settings? And I am curious what would happen with default geolocation doing model of site in Korea working on PC in Europe…
Edit
Again without me deliberately changing it UTC went from +9 to -7… So I am not sure if I am doing it or not… I have the same arrangement of trays and shortcuts and it was never happening to me before I updated to 2022…

I found that pressing Ctrl + Shift Toggles Fixed Pins option. I don’t know why I have never earlier pressed that..
I mean Ctrl + Shift while being in the texture edition.
EDIT
I just realized Shift alone is toggling Fixed Pins.. I am pretty sure it wasn’t like that before.. I often use arrows for positioning the texture as well as Shift + Arow to move it by bigger distance.. Now This toggles Fixed Pins.

Hi there! Is this hotfix coming? The export/import function is still not working properly in SU22. Thanks!

One more thing about the clipping of parallel views saved in previous versions. I noticed that both mine S and N elevations I have to use Front View… I don’t understand… I go to both scenes and front after slight rotation will return to the nice view without clipping and back will show me opposite elevation… strange considering that E and W alevation seem to work ok with left right view… Maybe it is a just my file error or maybe some tip where to find the bug…
ELEV 심곡 M 220513.skp (2.0 MB)

I can’t see why the north view is front and so is the south view. You can tell from the shadows that both views really are facing front, and from Outliner you see that different groups are being shown. Maybe someone else will have ideas.

The axis is different between the views. Currently standard views obey the modified axis. They used to stick to the unmodified axis - I don’t now remember if this changed with v. 2022 or earlier.

Thanks for noticing that. Resetting the axes and updating the scenes stops the oddity from happening. There was a recent change to make views honor modified axes instead of the original axes.

So, does modifying the axis help with orienting plan views? I currently rely on plugins to get the plan oriented the way I want.

Yes, I understand that was the idea.

Hello, I need help with my refund, I can’t contact us.

Is there a better tool than Roll Camera for aligning views?

Roll Camera doesn’t allow a view to be snapped onto an edge.
So you can get “pretty close” to horizontal by Eyeballing it, but that’s not ideal, is it? (especially when you go into LayOut)

Maybe I should start a feature request?
