I’m excited to announce that the 2025.0 update is now available for SketchUp for Desktop! Download the 2025.0 update now, or, if you already have SketchUp open, simply go to ‘Help’ and click ‘Check for Update.’

There’s plenty to be excited about in this release. In particular, new visualization capabilities that open the door to a multitude of possibilities and stylistic flavors in SketchUp! These new ingredients include: Photoreal Materials, Environments, AI texture generation, all-new 3DW Material and Environment Libraries, improved interoperability, and the list goes on. Dive deep into all the details with the full release notes here. In addition to Desktop, these new visualization features are available in SketchUp for iPad and supported in LayOut,3D Warehouse, and SketchUp’s API and SDK.LayOut also has some impressive new ways to work, plus it supports all the new visualization features. You can now use the same mental muscles for Move, Rotate, and Scale as standalone tools that work just like they do in SketchUp. Additionally, page navigation is more precise and efficient with LayOut’s new Zoom Window (Z) Zoom to Page (P) commands.

Explore all the 2025.0 features at our What’s New page on SketchUp.com. Download the update today, and please remember to share your creations with us on the forums. We can’t wait to see what you build!

Hey, small thing, not mentioned in the release notes in french, the tags have been retranslated from balises to etiquettes.

But the release notes still use balises as a translation for tags

I’ll check in with that translation. I believe we had to manually change the translation on Desktop to address that.

Well etiquette makes more sense, but after 4 years of balises, we’re bound to see mentions of balises for a bit longer I guess. Just like the transition from layers to tag.

Funny enough, the change was made in the web version a couple weeks ago, and haven’t seen major complain. Looks like people saw the new translation and just went with it because it made more sense.

I absolutely love the new features, the extensions importer saved me a lot of time, also the updates on layout are great, the move and rotate tool are just what we needed and the split and glue edges at once is awesome. The only thing that I was hoping for that wasn’t added, is the feature to export from layout to dwg or dxf with all the tags from the sketchup model, I really hope you could implement this in the near future.

I installed it on my Mac, I still have issues with shortcuts, I have used shift+space bar to select connected, for years, it works on windows and on sketchup 2023 on Mac, but I can’t make it work on sketchup 2024 and 2025. A lot other shortcuts that include modifier keys like Shift, Cmnd, option and control, don’t work on sketchup 2025.

I’ve just installed the 2025 update, and once again, I could not be more disappointed.
I use SketchUp for building things, such as houses, in CAD. SketchUp is a good decade behind in the basics needed in CAD. For instance, the absence of baseline dimensioning. I don’t think anyone on the SketchUp programing team has ever done actual framing or rafter layout. So when I dimension a project, I have to baseline dimension one dimension at a time. That is ridiculous.
I’ve made a list of suggestions before, but here it is in more detail. I would like to see anyone dispute the need for any of the following items:

Right Click an object to access and edit all properties!!!
This one is huge, and can really speed up modeling. When any object or entity is right clicked, all of the attributes should be displayed, and should be able to be edited. For instance, if a line is right-clicked, the color of the line should be displayed, and be able to be changed. Compare that with changing the color of a line currently, or editing the properties of a dimension.
All of the attributes of an entity, or object, that can be edited, should be easy to edit.

Ortho mode for Line Drawing
Constraining lines to be drawn in X, Y, or Z should be the default. A user should not have to remember to hit a key to constrain line drawing.

Move important Layout features into Pro, and get rid of Layout.
Switching back and forth between two separate programs within the same application makes no sense whatsoever. Since I have been using SketchUp, I’ve heard endless complaints about Layout. There’s simply no sensible reason for it.

For dimensions, add "baseline dimensioning, and add angle dimensioning.
Baseline dimensioning is essential for contractors when doing framing layout. Stepping measurements is a forbidden practice for professional builders.
Not being able to dimension angles is ridiculous.

Rounded, Chamfered, and Beveled edges for objects
Users should be able to specify all parameters, and should be able to create fillets.

Make zooming in and out consistent, in contrast to having cursor on an object when zooming in or out.
This is, without question, one of the most irritating, and time wasting defects in Sketchup. If your cursor is not on a specific object, the zooming in or out is random, and causes unnecessary delay when modeling.

Cutting openings in layered solids, such as walls with siding and paneling.
This should be standard.

Slicing solids.
There should be a slicing tool to slice up solids, and the sliced solids should remain as separate solids, not raw geometry.

Polyline.
It is standard in vector drafting software to have a polyline option. The user should be able to add nodes, and be able to convert the polyline to a curve.

Bezier Curve.
A Bezier curve tool is standard in vector drafting software

OSNAP needs substantial improvement. Look at AutoCAD OSNAP options.
A user should be able to specify exactly what nodes should be snapped to, and when any of the specified nodes is selected, it should be prominently indicated, without being hidden by the cursor, and that includes finding the

You should not be able to use Command in any version of SketchUp. option control, shift, all seem to still work. Here’s me setting all of those keys as a shortcut:

image

You can use shift-space bar if you want, and then pick the Lasso tool from the button, or give it a different shortcut. I don’t think the shortcuts from 2023 get migrated on Mac, you would have to set those up again.

So, autocad ? If you want it to work like autocad, maybe it’s better to use autocad ?

Except for those people that use it, everyday, for paying work.

Trying to install the extension migrator - won’t work because Bitdefender blocks it. Same issue for any plugin that I try to install using the extension warehouse.
See pic. Team aware of this?
Edit: 250227 someone must have reached out to Bitdefender because it works again now.

Edit: plugin menus/icons cant be docked in Windows - In the performance options (Windows 10 settings), temporary enable ‘show window contents while dragging’.

Edit2: there’s some shadow bug/feature when using the View/Component Edit/hide rest of model. See pic and 3d model. Just double-click on the bottom object (Component A) and use the hide-rest-of-model option. The shadows of the rest of the hidden model are still visible but also strange/distorted

viewHideRestOfModel.skp (146.0 KB)

Edit3: when exporting an object with a new PBR material to fbx, it only exports one texture even though the material uses several texture inputs. That’s a pity if you’re using the 3d model in for instance UnrealEngine.

Edit 3B. Also, you cant view/export all the additional textures - metalness, roughness and normal. These texture names in the material editor can’t be found on disk drives so if you have a nice PBR material in SU, it seems you can’t export/use it in another software like Unreal.

Looking forward to using the new features :+1:

3DConnexion extension doesn’t work with the Migrate tool. There is a new driver (10.8.7) for macOS (11/02/2025) at 3DConnexion, so after installing the update and a reboot everything back to normal.

Norton doesn’t.

Strange, I used to not-get this warning and I see now in 2024 it results in the same error as well.
Edit: adding the url (https://ewh-prod.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/) to the exceptions list in Bitdefender doesn’t fix it. Any suggestions?

Edit: 250227 someone must have reached out to Bitdefender because it works again now.

Did you also needed to reconnect the 3dmouse after the reboot as i did?

Anywho, after (1) installing the latest driver, (2) reboot the system, and (3) reconnected the 3dmouse to the device, it is working again

I am running the Bluetooth Edition, no reconnecting required.

I just looked into “Apply Tags to Scenes” - Thank you SU team, that’s a real frustration point removed!!!

I know for some, templates are the solution, but too often I find needing to add a Tag can be a real pain.

Very exciting release. Congratulations to the teams at Sketchup. We didn’t get all the things we wanted (of course), but there’s a LOT here to be happy about.
