Hidden geometry appears after export to Revit

I use SU to model more complex geometry then export into Autocad and then to Revit for use in my construction documentation. The problem I have is that my hidden geometry appears in Revit. I’ve tried turning off / freezing the layer (in all three programs). I’ve tried joining and softening the edges of curves. I’ve tried giving all hidden geometry it’s own layer (hide) and then turning off / freezing that layer. None work. I’ve attached both the SU and Revit views. I turned on the “hide” layer in SU so you can see the geometry. Is there a way to do this so that the hidden geometry does not appear in the final Revit product?

Can you test:

Hide them?
Smooth them?

Does one work to get the result you need?

AFAIK, no. Revit displays all the hidden edges and it has no function to smooth imported face geometry. Revit’s internal geometry is based on solids.

Have you tried Layout?

If you are exporting to AutoCad as 2D images, you can delete the extra edges in AutoCad. They will be just lines.

No. I would like to not have to introduce yet another step in the process. Does it work through layout?

I have not tried using Layout for this purpose. A couple years ago I used Layout for a couple sets of CDs just to see how the process went. But I haven’t used it since.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried all those things. None worked.

your best shot would be to export as .obj from SketchUp, and import that in Revit, saving one step:

Ooooh… I’ll try and see if it works. Stay tuned.
