Trying to geolocate my project. I’ve been using the software for 10+years, and 2020 is the first version that I have used that won’t allow me to add a location. I created an account, logged in, and try to add location, and it just sits for over an hour with no location loaded. I have to enter task manager to stop the process in order to do anything.

There is nothing off screen – it just sits in this view (see image below) – I’ve let it sit overnight thinking that it may just need more time to load, but it will not load. This worked in 2019 version of the software, however we no longer have licenses to that, and I am forced to use 2020, which doesn’t work. FYI - I never had this problem when the software used Google maps data.
Did you install SU2020 by right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator from the context menu? If not or if you aren’t sure, you might try repairing the installation. Find the installer or download it from Download All | SketchUp, right click on it and choose Run as administrator. If you are presented with options choose Repair.
This might help, won’t hurt anything, and won’t take but a minute or so. Make sure you’ve closed SketchUp and LayOut before doing this. And log into Windows as your normal user.
I am not a system administrator, and therefore cannot do this. I will however forward your suggestion to our IT support, and let you know if that solves the problem.
I understand that you may not have the authority to install software on your computer. I had that issue with my former employer although I could request and get temporary permission. The key thing if the IT admin has to do it is they should be signed in with your user ID and right click to use Run as administrator. This does not mean just logging into Windows as the system admin.
I haven’t seen a case where the import gets stuck like that, but there have been some cases where a dialog shows a terrain import error. That’s the one that could have been off screen.
Did anyone figure this out? I’m having the same problem. It worked fine until yesterday. Then this morning I try to geolocate and the map only partially loads. When I click import map area it freezes on “importing” forever. I checked my internet speeds and everything is solid. I’ve been using SketchUp for 9 year and have never ran into such a persistent issue here.
After selecting the area for geolocation, it gets stuck with the ‘importing your site’ screen open, preventing me from making any changes to the model. Only way to back out is to open task manager to force a close and reopen my model. I have tried leaving it for hours and it doesn’t load, my internet is fine and I have tried reinstalling.
The image not loading seems to be an issue for some locations. Others have reported that and hopefully when those who have the ability to work on it get into work on Monday they’ll see about fixing it. @colin has surely made sure that’s getting passed on to them.
Although I don’t have any problem in my neck of the woods I see something similar in Nottingham.
I didn’t yet post anything about, but I have seen some issues that happen in SketchUp 2019 and later that don’t happen in earlier versions. Can you try SketchUp Make 2017 and see if you succeed?
