FlexTools Extension

Hi Armin,

It’s possible that it’s something like RT described, and it is a good idea to test and see what happens when you cut the door and replace it.

Please send us the model at: Contact - FlexTools and we’ll take a look.

Hi @Yoni I had to manually fix the wall that was cut. This is for work in progress. The next time the problem happens I’ll save a copy of the file and email it to you. As I said the door was only set to cut through two faces. Incidentally I often find after reopening a model that the wall loses its ability to heal itself when a flex tools object is moved or deleted i.e. the opening needs to be manually adjusted.

I see that all the time after working on a model for a while. I have suspected that it has to do with editing the underlying geometry of the walls they’re inserted in, but can never really prove that, other than it does happen to windows that haven’t been moved since first being cut in.

There are some situations where wall cutter openings can break, and there are ways to prevent it from happening. See here a few examples: WallCutter - Instantly Cut Through Walls in SketchUp

That said, there are times where it happens and we don’t always know the reason. If it happens again/many times, best to send us the model with indications of what went wrong and where, and we’ll do our best to try and figure it out / fix it up.

I keep running into an issue of Doors specifically being really slow to modify after being initially placed in the model.

EDIT: Possible due to adding in doors into pre-sized wall openings vs relying on the wall cutter?

yeah I find that it works for a day or two but then it basically loses the wall cutter ability; even if there is no change to the underlying wall geometry

Hi Tim,

When there is any slowness calculating dynamic components, it will be most noticeable with the glass door because it is relatively more complex than the other components.

This is probably because of a conflict with another extension. Have you installed or updated any other extensions recently?

To figure out what might be causing this, disable all other extensions except for FlexTools and Dynamic Components:
a. Go to: Extensions > Extension Manager > Click on the right to disable all the extensions one by one. Leave FlexTools and Dynamic Components enabled.

b. Restart Sketchup

c. Go to Extensions > Extension Manager > Check that all the extensions are actually disabled! If not, repeat step a. and restart Sketchup again.

Then bring in the door and see if it is any faster. If it is faster, try enabling groups of extensions (and restart sketchup every time) and see if you can narrow down when the slowness happens again.

Let me know what you find.

Also, please send us:

  1. Your flextools log files.
You can find them at: C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\F3d_FlexTools\logs\ [Sketchup Version].

  2. If this is happening in a specific model (and not in a new model), please send the model too

Editing the wall geometry after wall cutter windows and doors are inserted can definitely cause the openings to break. To avoid this, select the wall cutters and open the WallCutter settings > ‘Remove Cuts’ > Do the operation you need on the wall > ‘Refresh’ and the openings will regenerate and they will remain dynamic afterwards.

More about how to prevent wall cutters from breaking accidentally here: WallCutter - Instantly Cut Through Walls in SketchUp

Did you happen to receive any flextools error messages at any point in time while working on the model?

We recently fixed a bug where such an error could pop up and (silently) cause some of the wall cutters in a model to break.

The best way to solve such an issue is for us to better understand your modeling workflow and we could then possibly spot when and where the breaking could happen.

Feel free to contact at Contact - FlexTools and we could schedule a video call.

New FlexTools update was just released.

FlexTools Pro v1.43.0

The Highlights :sparkles:

  • Added WWHH input to all doors, windows & slats.
  • All Doors can now be calculated by Leaf Size - including the Pocket Door!
  • Added an option to display Rough Opening Gaps (shim space) for all rectangular windows.
  • Added export metadata for Window Area, Glass Area, and Glass % for all windows.
  • Added Automatic Unit Switching in the Options window so the size preview on top now follows your Model-Units or WWHH, depending on your selection (requires one component refresh for it to display correctly).
