I am from South Africa and have the PlaceMaker extension, which you are a co-author of. How can we go about getting better information/data coverage as many (coastal, holiday home location) areas only terrain/roads/water can be brought in?
Hi Julian - because the OSM data does vary across the globe, the only thing that can be done for these more remote areas is to have patience. There are efforts happening right now to map the entire globe in 3D and PlaceMaker aims to be the solution to deliver that data directly to you inside SketchUp when it is ready.

Really looking forward to this session and John Brock’s.
Daniel. Do you use Layout?
That is a work in progress for us. New data sets are coming alone for Africa but are still a year or two away.
Thanks for the presentation @Daniel_Tal . What I got to see of it was excellent. Unfortunately everything locked up before it was over.
I am tied to AutoCAD as an industry standard and how operations work for us in our office. So we dont use Layout. We have talked about it for future integration.
You’re stranded on an island, no rescue in sight, and you only had time to load 3 extensions into SketchUp before the boat sunk. What are those 3 extensions? (ONLY 3!)

Hello,
- what is your opinion of Twinmotion rendering engine and how does it compare to Lumion and other rendering programs.
- I like to get started in my own practice with augmented/Virtual Reality. Will you point me in the right direction?
- Also like to include to remote drones in my practice. Where can I find good sources to learn an purchase drones?
Thanks,
Thank-you for show casing your work, absolutely outstanding. I will be sure to check out your website.
I was supposed to do a presentation on Match Photo, but you showed examples of photo/model matching that would be challenging beyond what I do. I’d like to know more what tools and process you use to do them.
Good work matey
Hello
I have not used Twinmotion. It’s on my radar because of Nvidia and the potential for Twinmotion to be the first product to roll out genuine RTX (movie like) graphics and animations. So for now we use Lumion since its a better product but if Twinmotions graphics are cutting edge (see Playstation 5 graphics as a search) then I will move over to that.
For AR and VR - I would get the Oculs Go 2. Research its compatibility first but its a great affordable option to start with.
For Drones, start with Drone university videos on YouTube. But its a detailed process. Why I wrote a book. I would wait till its out. Its why Wiley asked to do it - to have a single source for ghe buisness side of a drone. But even before then learn to fly a drone. Not a cheap toy one. Get a DJI Mini for example. Or Mavic Mini to start with. I hope this helps.
We use Lumions Image overlay or photoshop. We have been doing Photomatches for a long time. The trick is starting with the right photo and then cutting the model out to fit. Its very photoshop intensive work. I would look online for resources on that. I do not have anything handy. Sorry.
Daniel- you always impress with your level of work.
I have been using Lumion for several years now but am recently beginning to do more photo-matching. What suggestions do you have for that process? What resources would you recommend? Thanks!
To tag onto this, they’re also currently developing integrations with Unreal Engine on their public roadmap - https://portal.productboard.com/epicgames/3-twinmotion-public-roadmap/tabs/5-in-progress - the ability to set up a model inside of Twinmotion, then export to and use Unreal Engine for final lighting and export could be a massive gamechanger.
Thanks Dan. I intend to wait for your book to come out. Thanks for the Tip(s). Big fan of yours.
