As to the ad interruptions - went to chrome and followed their support page to get rid of adware and so far so good!!! I didn’t know there was such a page - thanks for pointing that out.
I am now going to look for the link you provided for the ccc settings.
Also, in programs and features while scanning for some unnecessary programs I came across this: Intel media graphics media accelerator driver (installed on 8/14/14.- about the time I had the new HD istalled?! ) The paragraph below is a responce to my problem 7 days ago by sketch3d-de:
if you could launch SU you would be able to disable “Window > Preferences > OpenGL > Use Hardware Acceleration”… but if crashing during SU launch you may want use our free ‘OpenGL Config’ support tool (Windows only) for disabling the OGL hardware acceleration setting from outside SU (download to desktop > launch).
My Question to you is: Should I remove, in an attempt to PREVENT media acceleration, the Intel graphics media accelerator mentioned above and one that was installed on 8/14/14 ??? Would removing it corrupt what I believei to be the main graphics driver? Or are they one and the same?
I attempted to follow the youtube vidio concerning the “catalyst control center” and that fellow had that ability as a result of his AMD graphics card/driver. I looked over my Intel graphics control center well and found nothing of the same as he except for the first part of his vidio working with the Intel control center. I think I remember at one time days back directions for working on dos or the registry - typing in commands, etc… I’ll read through past messages to see if I can find it, but if you know what I’m referring to, maybe you can post a link for it? Thanks again.
May comment above referering to editing in dos and my question to you at the the reference for it - I remember now reading that in other SU support “topics”. I think that topic concerned getting SU to open and run as well. It may not apply to me at all? I’m going to look for it again and read about it to see if it does apply?
I just ran the intel driver update and it did update my driver? I’ll post at the bottom a screen cap of those files. always before I would get “no update available - your drivers are up to day”. Also, once the system rebooted - I tried running SU again but failed. You should get a report from that. Here is the pic of the files I was able to update:
Your recent crash is the same as the previous ones. Let’s leave the video card driver aside for now, and we’ll try to disable hardware acceleration for SketchUp. If disabling hardware acceleration fixes the crash, that will at least get you started working with SketchUp again.
I’m going to bump this thread over to one of the folks in the support department, they’re better informed on exactly how to do that.
Thanks Marc,
I’ve been looking all over to see how I can do just that. In the windows help section concerning this the steps are provided but when I get to the screen that “should” allow me to check or unchick the 3 type of acceleration - my options are dulled out and nonresponsive = as if the option to change isn’t allowed? I’ll wait till another comments on my plight!
What I don’t understand is why I was able to use SU all along BEFORE I had a new hard drive installed? I have used Sketchup for the last 8 yrs. at least and never had a problem before? Today I foiund I have DirectX v.11 Is that (the latest version of it) compatible with SU 15 ?
Marc,
I shut down and rebooted about 5 times trying to get to the option to load in safe mode but - all I could see to do was either boot up using another device (cdrom, dvd, or external plugin ) or go to setup /bios. I don’t see how to boot up in safe mode or even the option to??? The F2 key (setup) or F12 (use other boot up device) are all the options I find or see. If the option pops up I don’t see it since my system boots so quick? Any key in particular I can use upon boot up?
As the PC powers up Tap F8 a few times with a slight pause between taps, an advanced boot menu should appear, use the arrow keys to get to boot in safe mode and hit enter.
Edit: you’ll probably need Safe mode with Networking as SU needs the network adapter to check it’s license these days.
Depending on design the key may be F2 or F10 or F12. You have found F12 does not work Watch bottom of screen as PC boots up often there is message which key to use. You do not need to time key stroke just hold it down until boot
Earlier you updated your drivers why again?
I question drivers as text file thought they are .dll type. BTW there are other files Dell recommends for up date. Here is what I see when using the TAG number you posted above.
Earlier you had run the "special " tool OpenGL Config " recommended by sketch3d_de( aka MARC?) on 3-25. What state do you think you left your PC in?
Thanks I stand corrected .
I was using the service tag number supplied by the OP and Dell set up manual for what I assumed was the SKU version Model DELL Inspiron 1764 ( Early 2010), tag no #8GGJLL1 , states F2 for BIOS set up.
You are correct , go to start , select arrow, then restart and make sure you do the “tap” before windows starts or you will miss the option.
Mac
When my system reboots all that I see as other boot up options provided are: F2 & F12 = there aren’t any other options shown. I am now going to try F10 as another suggested I try - can’t hurt.
I tried F10 and held it during initial boot and once it ran till the windows icon appeared at the bottom of the black window the machine started beeping loudly and did so for about 20 seconds before it contionued to boot. So that doesn’t work
In reference to your last Question concerning OpenGL Config - I left it “disabled”. Actually I just tried runnig the app and starting SU with both settings but again it failed to open.
