I have two machines, and occasionally have other people in my studio, or freelancers work with my models. I realized that my laptop didn’t have ConDoc tools installed on it after the majority of my tags were missing. I’m thinking that this happened when I saved and checked the yes checkbox on purging, and since I don’t have condoc tools on that machine, all of the tags related to condoc tools were deleted, since they don’t work like regular Sketchup tags. @mikebrightman does that sound correct? Is this a known problem, and or compromise/danger zone? I installed on this machine, and will just reload a model from my dropbox history from this morning and try to copy/paste all changes in the meantime.
UPDATE:
Found the last version of the file before I saved, purged, and lost tags. Did a purge on save WITH ConDoc Tools installed on that machine, and lost all tags again.
If anyone else is having this same trouble, I assume adding a MOG will keep this from being a problem, since those were created with traditional tagging. I haven’t had the same problem on other models that I know had that associated with it. I’ll let anyone else in my boots know what I find.
Purge Unused would only purge tags that aren’t used on anything in the model space.
I suggest keeping samples of your usual tags in a hidden layer, saved on your templates, so you wouldn’t lose them. At least that’s what I do…!
For this task I suggest you use Eneroth extract layers, or even better is 5D+ Auto Tag, because unlike other extensions, it saves also your customized tags colors.
Yes, this is true, but in this instance, tagged items aren’t actually tagged when using the multi tag function of ConDoc.
I re-imported architect set from condoc, and the MOG, all items that I thought lost ConDoc tags, showed back up.
Oh, yeah, I’m not quite sure how he accomplishes that or how it relates to regular Tags. I almost never use the over all purge suggestion - in fact, I just turned that prompt off. You can manually purge just components or just materials in their respective palettes and not purge tags. I can’t imagine that tags without anything on them is that much of a memory burden for SketchUp, whereas unused components and materials could.
I don’t have activated the native purge feature, I purge my files with cleanup3 and when I’m working with templates that have already created tags I turn off the option to purge tags.
Definitely disable the new auto purge function in SketchUp.
Make sure you are up to date with ConDoc 5.3. We have definitely addressed this issue. Tag visibility is stored with the scene. So even when you purge the SketchUp tags, they will come back and your scenes will be left intact.
Be sure to use the Reset button and the “Scene Save and Update” available on the ConDoc toolbar.
Let me know if that helps!
I would like to see this new feature have the ability to set each of the affected items to purge (tags, components, materials) to avoid the nagging text box on every save. I use the Medeek extensions it creates many tags so I have my templates setup with the all tags in folders to easily manage them in my models. I assume Condoc is similar. The tag purge wipes out the empty tags, then when you continue modeling the newly used tags come back to the unassigned root in the tags. Also when importing a SKP file into another all tag folders are stripped within that newly created component.
A similar improvement would be to set the defaults for a scene save/update. Updating from the scene tab updates all attributes often i dont want to touch the camera once it is set so updating the scene requires updating from the scene tray taking a few extra steps.
like Tig’s purge ?
The text box is a good thing for many many many users. We’ve seen too many files over here that are massively bloated.
Advanced users, the ones working with Condoc or D5+… are usually aware of the concept of purge. they can turn the auto prompt off and use tig’s purge instead
I just tried out @3DxJFD’s Tag and Folder Profiles and it seems to work well. Take your standard template, save the Tag and Folder setup as a profile, and you can import or bring it back into any other file.
when you turn the prompt off it purges tags on every save.
What? The one with 2025 about purging materials, components, etc? That hasn’t been my experience.
nope.
it asks “do you want to purge”? and then you can just say no and tick the remember my choice thing.
I just checked a couple minutes ago, it turned off the prompt and still no purge…
Where do you go to reset that? Reset all Warnings in Settings?
errrr… good question. maybe untick and retick the “ask if purge when save” thing in the preferences ?
idk, I’ve kept it on my training PC so the students learn about purge. on my mac I’ve turned it off quite early, and I’ll keep on manually tig-purging if needed.
On MS Windows:
Window > Preferences > General > Saving > Ask to Purge All at save
On Mac:
SketchUp > Settings > General > Saving > Ask to Purge All at save
This was very helpful, worked out. Thanks Mike
