Purging SketchUp Model

I have a template set up so that our folders are always the same when we start a new model. The only issue is, tags are empty until assigned to. When we purge the model it deletes everything that is unused, including template folders… any idea on how to stop this happening?

Create a simple component/group and make enough copies for your template and assign them to your tags so that they have something in them. If a component you could eventually select all and delete in one go, whereas groups would need more manual removal.
You could also use Tig’s Purge which gives you the option not to remove unused Tags among other things.

You could also create a component with all the tags, materials you want in your model by default and make it accessible to all.
Then when/if someone accidentally purges unused layers/materials they can easily insert the component to regain them and then delete it.

I’m struggling with this, how many tags should you apply to a component?

I would use TIG’s Purge All and choose No to purging unused tags.

The plugin is available from Sketchucation.

I have about 20 tags in my template along with 5 or so base materials.
The word ‘D e l e t e m e’ as separate letters would cover 8 of the tags and all of the materials

I’m going to back quietly away as I don’t understand what that means.

Hi All, I’ve found another thread, and have used Sketchucation’s purge extension just as DaveR suggested.

Quite rightly.
