2025 Bugsplat upon start up

Well after a nice day of working with 2024 and some 2025? Now all the sudden my SketchUp crashes during startup…I might get 1 full open for every 9 crashes.

Can the developers to help me figure out what is going on please? In the meantime I will uninstall and re-install…get right back to you guys.

You need to describe what is happening in more detail. Which version is the problem with?
Does the Ruby Console print anything when you start it? Did you get a BugSplat? Did you send it? What is the BugSplat number? Screenshots? Etc…etc…

Don’t forget to install by right-clicking on the installer file and select :Run as administrator

Did you run the installer as administrator?

Were you using the new graphics engine?

Are you sending in the bug splat reports with your email so devs can track them?

Yes I sent the reports…the first couple slipped through without me entering the name and email but after that? Yes filled that out.

V. 25.0.571

It seemed to be fine until it got around to loading all the extensions and one in particular started hanging up. “Helix-along-curve-tool-0.9”…I finallly got it stable enough to uninstall it but that did not seem to help.

It get’s to just about almost fully usable and ready to draw and then the center field goes black and the program crashes.

I am re-installing it now and I think I might ease up on the extension migration and slowly bring them over.

Get right back to you.

How did you migrate the extensions? You can use the new extension for extension migrating…

But I would get it up and running without extensions and then re-install them one by one.

Yes I used the new migration tool. Fantastic tool BTW…nicely done.

I rebooted after the un-install. Re-installed but the weird thing is all my extensions were already migrated. Like it just jumped back in right where it left off before I un-installed it. Same thing is happening.

Crash #2035

OK Just checked and yes I am using the new graphics engine.

OK it appears to be stable now…no bug splats for the last 4 or 5 openings.

Only now my space mouse won’t work anymore…so on to the next problem.

You’d have to reinstall that from the 3dconnexion installer.

Tried that several times now…worked fine before but now…seems like I go through this every year with the 3D mouse…just so used to the mouse I can’t go back…

Well if at first…blah blah blah…

Yeah it’s about time this was sorted. Every single upgrade its an issue. If extensions can now be ported into the new version, why not the space mouse settings @TheOnlyAaron - you must have this problem too ?

I found your eight bugsplats. All of them seem to crash at the same point, and it is new graphics engine related. There is a particular function that gets called during start up, and for you that function is being called five times. I will ask the developers if that means something.

Thank you my friend for looking into this…I know this must be a busy time for your team right now…

In the meantime I guess I will start another 3D Connexion Mouse not working topic…

Things are getting better. Reinstalled the 3DConnexion software and all is good. I can live with this :grinning:

I might try that as well…

Hey Colin just got another BugSplat…this time for 2024 but the error was engine related:

Fortunately it happened after my presentation this afternoon…whew…

wondering about your issues. how much free space is on your drive and how much ram do you have? Did 2024 run with the new graphics?

Of course, because the installer only uninstalls files and folders that it created. Generally, installers never delete user files in the user’s %AppData% path.

You will need to rename your extensions folder …
%AppData%/SketchUp/SketchUp 2025/SketchUp/Plugins
… to something else like "Plugins_OFF" (etc.) in order to put SketchUp back into a pristine post-install state.

Once we start to understand what is causing a crash we put in a note into the bugsplat system, to at least make a suggestion.

I was trying to get the latest Nvidia drivers going on a PC laptop, in the hope of introducing problems. I didn’t get any problems, but it’s worth knowing that Nvidia did update drivers three days ago. If you haven’t updated recently it may be worth trying the new driver. If you did update in the last three days, can you go back to the driver before that?
