You should definitely come! This year is going to be jam-packed full of creativity. The Vancouver Convention Center is absolutely stunning and we are working really hard to create a very memorable program for all attendees. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! I’m the Events Manager for SketchUp.

We have a special accommodations page on our event website. Hotel booking links will likely be uploaded in October (I’m waiting for the hotels to put them together). We negotiated discounted rates with each hotel, so I would recommend using our conference rate vs booking directly on their website.

Hi all,
I wanted to respond to your top wish list requests so that you know we really do take your feedback seriously. Obviously we can’t do everything, but I think you’ll see some direct results of your feedback at next year’s event. If you’ve ever planned an event, you know that it’s a delicate balancing act (I call it the domino effect). If something didn’t make the cut, it’s likely that it would have had a larger effect on our overall plan. We truly appreciate you trusting us and being so passionate about SketchUp and 3D Basecamp. I hope to see you all in Canada in 2020!
- Student Pricing – New to this year! We have a financial aid/scholarship form. If you need help getting to 3DBC Vancouver, please fill it out.
- Softer Music Volume at Party and Keynote to facilitate conversations – Ironically, we did create a space like this last year at the party. The pool area was specifically designed to be more mellow so that people could chat, but the crowd took over and it became rowdier than we anticipated. I suppose that’s what happens at a good party! I will try to keep this in mind this year, but events will be events and I can’t control everything.
- Breakout Sessions by the pins/profession - New to this year! We will have some industry networking events at the main hotels and/or conference center. Details coming next year!
- Icons of the Pins on Breakfast Tables – Great idea! I’ll make a note of this.
- Forum names on badges or some way to add it – New to this year! Forum names on badges! Make sure you include your forum name in the registration form so that it’s printed on your badge.
- Limit attendance growth to keep atmosphere inviting – Oh yeah, we feel you on this! This year, we will be growing to fulfill a contract signed years ago. But, since the next Basecamps are still being planned, we have control over the size and plan to bring Basecamp back to it’s cozy, intimate roots.
- Forum name prominent on badges - Copy that
- Given name prominent on badges - Copy that
- Forum link on last slide (QR Code?) to facilitate further discussion - We’ll see what we can do here. I will need to explore this further.
- Sketchup “Personality” and skill level test to help attendees pick appropriate sessions and help schedulers and curriculum developers make decisions - Does anyone want to volunteer to create this for us? If so, let’s chat! If we use it, I will reward you with a 50% off ticket!
- Insulated coffee/adult beverage cups as swag - Good idea. I’ll share that with the swag committee so they can see if it’s a good fit.
- Only have sessions that teach practical skills (i.e. no “let me share my portfolio” sessions) - We agree! We are really trying to make that happen this year.
- Introduce sages and SU team at the opening session - I’ll explore this, but it might take too long.
- Forum Lounge near Knowledge Cafe, or some area of the Knowledge Cafe - Isn’t the entire conference a giant Forum Lounge??? That’s how I think of it.
- Drop the Basecamp App and use the forum instead - The Forum doesn’t have the capabilities we need to function as a conference app. Sorry, but this does not work.
- 4D SketchUp model of the venue to help attendees plan what to attend and how to get there - We had a 3D model but we wanted to keep some things a surprise. If you want to explore the Vancouver Convention Center before 3D Basecamp, visit: Floor Plans and Specs. They have 360 views of each floor. The conference takes place in the West Building.
- Volunteer forum promoters in designated forum promotion area - Volunteer away! If you feel strongly about this, I encourage and empower you to own it. Email me directly, so we can brainstorm more about this concept

I had a couple of ideas…
- About the two competing name badge ideas (which name is prominent). I would need to find my badge from last year to check how it was, but there are two usual mistakes made at conferences: the badge is hanging by a single cord, and can easily flip around, and the badge is only printed on one side.
Many conferences now print on both sides of the badges, so that if the single cord turns around, you can still see who you’re talking to. If we had a two cord badge (or whatever the correct term is), that cannot easily turn around, one side could have the real name in big letters and forum name in smaller letters, the other side would be the opposite. People could choose which they prefer to be prominent.
- About showing off Sages. At the Apple WWDC, one of the more fun sessions is a stump the experts one. Many well known engineers are on a panel, and people pose questions. Sometimes it can be obscure Mac trivia questions, other times it’s a really deep programming question. If the panel are stumped, the questioner wins some swag.
The panel would be Aaron, Josh, DaveR, and some number of other staff members and Sages.
