A computer will often sit in the distribution pipeline for many months after its system is loaded. You should check for current drivers even on a new machine.

Agreed, and the OP’s choice of brand computer does leave a lot to be desired. While I understand that many people aren’t up on building their own, some brands don’t use the greatest components for their builds (not including the cpu or gpu). Any new machine should have all drivers checked and updated as necessary. As for GPU usage, especially for nvidia, the control panel will allow the user to ensure that the GPU is used all the time, overriding the cpu’s onboard graphics, which of course, makes a big difference in performance.
