Window "Please wait while Windows configures sketchUp 2023" after opening any SketchUp file in explorer

Hi,

After a deep uninstall of SU 2020/21/22 I’m having problems with SU23.
Opening SU23 with the application icon works fine, but;
Opening any SU file in explorer - yes the extension is correctly linked to SU23 - I get 1/ a popup window; “Please wait while Windows configures SketchUp 2023” 2/ next one 'the function that you like to use, is located on a network source that is unavailable - click OK to try again or find the correct path… with the installation package SketchUp 2023.MSI". 3/ cancel > “can’t find the path with the needed SketchUp 2023.MSI” 4/ Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product SketchUp 2023. the windows installer cannot continue" 5/ “unreparable fault with installation”

In the forum I’ve found that a SketchUp 2023.MSI simple doesn’t exists

Needed file to install SU correctly (source: https://help.sketchup.com/en/downloading-sketchup);

1/ Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015; here I get also an error while performing an ‘admin. installation’;

2/ Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 - doesn’t install since there is a more recent version present on the PC

The answer is simple. Redownload the installer exe, and rerun it “As administrator”, choose Ok or Repair as needed.
(The MSI files are extracted from the installer exe archive. Your “deep cleaning” likely deleted them.)

If you’ve run SketchUp this session, reboot your computer before running the installer.

Thanks for your time @DanRathbun answering this topic.
Believe me re-installing, repairing etc doesn’t solve the explorer error…

When you install from the exe installer-file it will copy the MSI file into a special folder.
It will be used if it’s needed afterwards…
The SketchUp 2023.MSI does exist…
On my PC it’s in
C:\Users\TIG\AppData\Local\Downloaded Installations\{03CB7BC4-3C9C-452B-BFD7-1C3616BE96BD}
Your subfolder might vary.
Files in the AppData tree are hidden by default, but can be seen with the right settings…

The C++ Redistributable and .NET should be installed by the exe installer [if missing] when it’s run as administrator…

Here’s a repeat of the correct installation method…
Ensure SketchUp/Layout are not running [Task Manager]
Select the Sketchup installer’s exe file [in Downloads] and right-click > context-menu > Run as administrator.
When prompted choose “Repair”.
Reboot your computer afterwards.
Running the installer’s exe by double-clicking it is not the same thing - even if you have admin-powers…

Something has gone badly awry with your deep-clean, so you need to reset somethings…

Thanks to all contributors for finding a suitable solution and getting me back on track.

I’ve took the drastic way, after trying numerous suggestions, and deep uninstalled SketchUp (using WIN ‘GeekUninstaller’)

After a reboot. I could install SU23 in a breeze.

After a second reboot. Opening SU file from explorer worked back as normal.

Thanks again for all your swift help!
