The cutaway preview of the left component is incorrect

First the model is about 120 m from the origin. Why?
Moving it to 0,0,0 doesn’t help with the cutaway.
I looked at the scaled cable gutter. If I reset the scale it’s length shrinked to … zero. Only a profile. That may be the culprit here. Make the component something like 1 meter and use that to replace yours. See if that helps.
Oops, changing to ‘Scale Definition’ with a resonable length didn’t help either.
But still, there is definitely something wrong with that original component.
Yes, it’s caused by the scaling ratio. I want to reuse components regardless of their length to improve reuse efficiency. I think this is an official bug in Sketchup, because I can calculate the actual cutting position using code
The issue with the exploded group can be resolved, but my intention is to reuse components regardless of their length, thereby enhancing reuse efficiency. I believe this is an official bug in SketchUp
You can think of it however you want, but the correct way to work is to scale the raw geometry, not the container, or if you scaled the group, apply the scale definition to it, otherwise you should expect various strange things. The same is true in other 3D graphics programs - Blender, 3dsmax, C4D, Maya, etc.
I have to disagree with that.
Multiple use of scaled components (in length as seen here) is even recommended in SketchUp. Tempering with its ‘Scale Definition’ can trow you off while ruining your model.
Also exploding (*) > regrouping the component is not the solution. It seems to overcome the bug in the original component. Better would be to find out what the issue was in the first place. Is it the scale factor of such a short component to its extremes?
*) Also think of expoding and thereby forcing the raw geometry (or the container’s inside) to inherit material and tab of the container.
It’s okay, Mr. Hubers! ![]()
Using scaled components is possible, but recommended…?!!.. weird! ![]()
I added the function to the extension I created to show me when an object doesn’t have the correct scale. Such components create problems even if they are only used in SketchUp. There is a long list of messages in the forum, in which they didn’t know why things were happening to their models, from the way the textures looked, to the strange positions in LayOut and many others.
Regarding ‘Explode’, yes, I mentioned it now because it doesn’t have a big negative influence in this case, but normally the solution is to recreate the objects correctly, without any non-uniform scale.
In Blender, they introduced the warning message for ‘non-uniform scale’ recently, because too many problems were being created by such objects.
But… everyone works the way they want… so…
no problemo!
