Why can i not snap to anything when moving an object

I am trying to move one object from a point to another point on another object. One of the most basic operations and SU will not snap to anything. It is a new installation with no changes made to any configurations. So tired of constantly needing to hack the program for simple things. Any suggestions for why the program will not complete this basic task? It will also not constrain to an axis after clicing the right arrow for the red axis. I tried changing the perspective and it did not help. It does not even keep the object with the cursor and instead sends it off into illogical directions far away from the cursor. Why would that ever be allowed?

And now it is working after not changing anything. How can a program this old still have random glitches?

Now the red constraint shows the tracking dots but does not actually constrain it to the axis.

WTF

actually it is not working now. It did once but then not again. same error, not moving with the cursor and not constraining to the axis,

Have you tried updating to SketchUp 2026?

Is your graphics card driver up to date?

What extensions are you running?

no unusual extensions.

Why would that matter if i am not invoking one?

Extensions load when you start SketchUp. They can run code independently from what you do. Some of it might interfere with “snapping”, for instance. However, I see nothing unusual in your list, except that I don’t remember what 3DxSketchUp does.

3Dconnexion space mouse.

running 46.0.429 64 bit

I have never needed to update a graphic card.

That is usually automatic but i checked and it is current.

I do have the connection mouse but i am not using it today.

Yes, right. Senior moment. I checked my Appdata folder without remembering that that one loads from Programdata.

Go to the nvidia website for the latest driver, do not trust windoze.
Did you install SketchUp by right-clicking on the download and select “run as administrator”?

Windows cannot update Nvidia graphics drivers correctly. Download and install the latest driver from Nvidia directly. Or install the Nvidia App that will notify you of new versions.

One more question: Have you tried repairing your SketchUp installation?

Why would there be a difference between installing as an an administrator?

If that is critical it should be automatic or with a prompt.

Same with the drivers. It is 2026 it is time for software to do its job instead of me needing to hack it.

If it will not work without hacking it does not work and should be improved and corrected.

I will try installing it that way but not at all what i wanted to or should need to be working on today.

It takes like 4 minutes to install the software…

The drivers? That’s hardware. Blame an open and liberating and ‘free’ ecosystem on pc for that. Can you imagine how difficult it would be for SKP to somehow manage every combination of display, graphics card, CPU, etc. etc.?

Are you using classic or new graphics engine?

I have never needed to do that, but others have. It might have to do with the security software and settings you use.

SketchUp cannot keep your operating system and its drivers up to date. Any automatic Windows update may change things so that your third party hardware requires an update. Complain to Microsoft. Or buy a Mac and give up your independence altogether.

Or be free from this bullshit…

No way i will ever buy anything from Apple. Without a doubt they are the reason everything is overpriced and underperforming. It was founded on and persists because of intentional dysfunction, arrogance and greed. They should be made to pay trillions for all the time we have wasted on cross platform incompatibility. I will never hire anyone or work for an office that is exclusively Apple.

Well, the history of Apple releasing updates that break things for users is quite long, too. Basically all computers are probably patched-together junk.

A lot of inference things rely on edges and corners. Any chance you have Edges turned off?
